Keep copies of them and contact your local internet service provider and possibly police if they are threatening. Print out hard copies to keep for your files.

Most people, unbeknownst to them although it is in there, sign contracts that they agree to use their internet service responsibly and legally. If they are sending you harassing/threatening messages or breaking the law, then they are in breech of their contract and can/should have their internet service discontinued.

Maybe try starting with police or your isp.

Like the others have suggested, I would print them out for record keeping. If they are threatening or seem they could escalate to something, you might be able to get your IP to track them. However, the tracking will only take you to where they were sent from. So if the person used a library or someone else's computer, it woun;t be much help. What may help is tracking down the address listed for the email address owner--if it is correct.

There are reverse email lookups available on the internet. I searched for mine and it did bring me to a page that showed my current city. My name and address were "click here" and I was brought into a premium service that I would have to pay to view. I tried searching on my other emails...comcast.net, work email and gmail and the city it pulled up was for the email service (gmails, comcasts, etc).

I'm not sure what can be done about mean spirited emails, though. Threatening? You may have something. Call the non-emergency number of the police, or print out the emails and bring them in.

First of all save these.(You could of course change your email address which is sometimes a nuisance). Second did you show your husband? Does someone have a crush on him and think they might send you a running? Or a problem with him or you and they want to upset your life? If so you might need him to support you on this. The emails themselves are just a stupid statement, but find out if he is getting some that say things like "your wife is cheating on you" The poster/person who said that if someone is threatening you is correct, Then you can defend yourself. Against what right now, who knows. Otherwise don't even open them and send them to phishing. We were getting stupid emails too for a little bit. There's always some bozo who thinks they are being funny. It's like when people used to make prank phone calls. So ridiculous.If you are frightened or have a real live hunch then of course once you document everything file a complaint.

You should be able to look up the senders email address by looking clicking on View Source. On Comcast if your right click you can then click on View Source, IncrediMail right click and go to Properties, Outlook you open the message and then go to View and click on Options.
