Hi,
Im thinking that what you have is the opposite of what I have since my thyroid does NOT work. I was diagnosed after my son was born and he is almost 3 now. I was gaining so much weight and all I wanted to do was sleep. My doctor put me on a low dose medicine called synthroid. The first dosage did not work so he upped it and now I am fine. I just have to take a pill everyday for the rest of my life to control it. I would assume thats all you would need also. They should take blood work once a year to test your levels. If they can control it there no need to take it out. Hope all turns out well.

I was diagnosed with a hyperthyroid (Grave's Disease) when I was 15 yrs old. A few years later when we couldn't control it with the medication I underwent something called Radioactive Iodine treatment.. it basically kills off part of your thyroid.. since then I know how hypothyroidism. If you take your medications and do what your doctor tells you, you'll be fine. But it can be a serious matter. I'm 25 now and I still have some issues now and tehn with keeping my thyroid levels where they are supposed to (Whenever I am pregnant they go haywire). If you have any other specific questions I'll do my best to answer them.

It is very controllable. Meds and different options are available. It can take a year or two to figure out what is best though, so don't get discouraged. Sometimes they will irradiate part or all of it and help it slow down... worst case scenario they "kill it off" so to speak and give you replacement pills... that is what my ex-mil went through.

I have a lot of family members with hypothyroids which is the exact opposite. Hyperthyroid is simply that your body is producing too much of one thing or another and can be balanced with a prescribed medication. Don't worry it isn't harmful when controlled and with treatment you'll feel a lot better.

I have this, too. It's very easy to treat with medication.
