I started introduction of solids to my baby when he was 5.5 months of age with half a tsp of cereal (rice).after a week i increased the quantity to 1 scoop( the one included in the formula) 10 days after that he got diarrhea. I kept feeding him as told by my doc. He gave antibiotic which settled his tummy. Then i included banana too. His tummy again got upset with loose stools. Ths time i noticed small red bumps on his face. Then i stopped giving him cereal which was 1.5 scoop and evening banana 1 tsp .This episode lasted for about a month. As i did not knw was it banana which caused him diarrhea or rice cereal? And those small red bumps on his face also freaked me outI don't know what food to start with now. He's 7 months and just on breastfeed and formula.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I'm not going close to banana. I'll start solids in a while now. Im too scared. thanks everyone for your feedback.
In my friends and family kids of his age eat everything so not giving him anything makes me sad and he is so enthusiastic to try everything. He gets so excited when he sees a spoon and a feeding bowl. Well it's a heartbreak for me but i will wait.

I'm not sure exactly what your question is, but my infant broke out in eczema on his face when he was exposed to a food he was allergic to (it was cow's milk in his case). He also had terrible diaper rash after the exposure. When I eliminated that, his eczema and diaper rash went away.

If I were you, I first wait until his system is completely settled down - no rash and tummy is not upset. Then try something different. My infants preferred baby oatmeal cereal instead of baby rice cereal. You might try that - and only give that for at least 2 weeks - before trying to add anything else to his diet. If he reacts to that also, then wait another month before trying anything else. He might need more time before he's ready, and that is totally ok. Breastmilk and formula provide all the nutrition your baby needs until he is 12 months old. The cereal is only for practice at eating, not nutrition.

Both of my daughters couldn’t handle the rice. It upset their stomach. I switched to the oatmeal and everything was fine. The red bumps on his face could just be baby acne. Sometimes as they adjust to the high temperatures outside it can happen.

What does your doctor day?
A lot of kids don't take to solids till closer to their first birthday or even a little after that.
Breast milk and formula are fine.
There's no rush.
When you do try solid food again - go slow, give small amounts and only introduce 1 new food per week so you can tell what food he's reacting to.

Diarrhea happens.
There's no such thing as a kid who never has it at least once before they get to potty training age.
Antibiotics are often a CAUSE of diarrhea since it kills off beneficial bacteria too.
Ask your doctor about infant probiotics.
Also - baby eczema or impetigo is common and can pop up for almost any reason.
At around 7 months - teething/drooling can cause issues too.
Anytime you have a question - call your doctors nurse answer line.
That's what they are there for.

you started off sensibly, so the diarrhea is probably not caused by the rice cereal unless you're leaving something out.

if your doctor gave your baby an antibiotic there was something going on other than diet. antibiotics are not given to settle a tummy. it sounds like your doctor too attributed the diarrhea to bacteria, not rice cereal.

if he was doing fine with the rice cereal, i'd have kept that when the second episode occurred and just quit the banana.

did you call the doctor when the bumps and diarrhea occurred? what did she say?

no need to freak out. your baby is fine on breastmilk and formula. let his system settle down and then start SLOWLY introducing cereal again. maybe give oatmeal a whirl.

but just a little.

slowly.

It could be the banana. I can’t eat bananas because they upset my stomach. I remember being told to pick one food to introduce at a time and to not introduce another new food for two weeks. That makes it easier to determine if a new food is the problem. The red bumps could be baby acne or heat rash and not related to the food at all. Check with your doctor.

My kids never took to rice cereal. It caused bad stomach pains in my oldest. I didn't even bother with my second
