My little baby boy is 4 months old and about a week ago he started to get fussy when I try to nurse him during the day. He really throws a fit when I lay him down into breastfeeding position... I have tried other positions and he just doesn't want to eat during the day. He really get's upset too. He is also now waking up more during the night to nurse and literally pigs out during the night. He is interested in eating and seems to get more fussy as the day goes by because he doesn't eat and doesn't seem to fall asleep easily either... I am not sure what is going on with his little body during the day but I think he might just be overstimulated and doesn't want to 'waste time' eating when so many other things are going on. Does this sound correct or should I be worried about him?? I have been letting him just take his short naps and waking him up close to the end to nurse and he is WONDERFUL nursing at those time (when he has not been stimulated by sound or color or anything yet). Thank you so much and I would appreciate hearing back from all of you experienced mommas... :)
Or he could be teething! There are so many things to consider. Both of my children started teething at 3 months of age!

K., my son is 6 months old and is going through that now. Do you guys have a schedule? How long does he go without eating? As long as he's having enough wet/BM diapers and his soft spot doesn't feel sunken in then I wouldn't be too worried. My son has recently decided he's not very interested in eating during the day, but he too nurses well at night. I would suggest making a routine and trying to stick to it...if you have to wake him from naps then maybe you need to adjust the routine. Maybe instead of eating every 3 hours he really wants to eat every 4 hours. You could also call your pediatrician and ask them about it. If he's a healthy weight and isn't acting hungry or lethargic then you really probably don't need to worry. Good luck!
I am having a harder time nursing my 4 month old as well right now. I have found that I have to go into a quiet room and shut the door.....he just gets too distracted by anything that is going on. Maybe you can turn the lights off too and pretend that it is night. I know my son nurses really well at night and I think it is because there is nothing else for him to pay attention to.

my little guy nurses to fall asleep (and other times too). when he is tired he fusses to eat. did you often do the same thing? maybe he doesnt want to nurse because he knows he will fall asleep and doesnt want to.
You may want to have him checked and make sure he doesn't have an ear infection. Nursing changes the pressure in their ears and soothes them at night. A similar thing happened with my daughter and turned out she had an ear infection. Best Wishes!
