In Pain and Getting Desperate...

Hello mamas. I'm struggling with something and would like your input. I'm 28 years old and have two kids. An 8-year-old girl and a son I had almost 6 months ago. I am a runner, and when I resumed running a couple of months after having my son, I began having upper right-sided abdominal pain during my runs. It was severe at times, kind of like a REALLY bad side stitch. It was a pain I'd never had before. I thought maybe it was just my post-partum body getting back to normal and tried to ignore it. Then my right side started aching all the time. I went to the doctor and he was sure it was my gallbladder. However, the ultrasound and HIDA scan (which tests the GB function) were both normal. He referred me to a GI doctor, and it took me over a month to get in to see him.

In waiting to see the GI doctor, my pain has gotten worse and worse. It is mostly on the right, but when I run or exercise at all it spreads to the left sometimes. When I run, it is stabbing/severe. It wraps around my right lower back and radiates to my left shoulder tip. When at rest, it still hurts, but not as severely. I have a constant ache in my right side/lower back. My GI doctor ordered a CT scan, which was negative. I'm awaiting a colonoscopy next week. I have no other GI symptoms--no nausea, vomiting, problems going to the bathroom, and don't have any issues after I eat. Based on where the pain is, it's hard for me to believe it is definitely not my gallbladder (especially since I just had a baby)--but they keep telling me it can't be given those two normal tests. Does anyone have any ideas/similar experiences?

I should add that the CT ruled out a hernia. Also, I've seen a physical therapist who has been performing visceral manipulation on me. He has found many things "out of place," and has fixed them--but the pain is no better. Every time I go back something else is out of whack.

What can I do next?

other than a side stitch i would say internal hernia. All kinds of stuff gets knocked loose when we pop out babies. My bladder has never recovered!

Check your heart.

In women, the symptoms are different than in men.

Some Doctors, do not think of this, even, in women.

I read this and my first thought was your heart not GI. In women, heart issues show up in many different ways and you CAN have issues with your heart even if your body is in great shape, and even on a good diet. Pregnancy and heredity also play a factor. Just a thought to keep in mind.

Sounds like your gall bladdar....maybe referred nerve pain? I would quit running for awhile and give your body a rest. Did the docs check some blood work...Complete blood count, liver enzymes, ect...? Did they check for kidney stones? If your not getting relief, I would get a second opinion. Best of luck to you!

W.,
I just recently had surgery and the similar pain I have is from a nerve. I don't know how you could get that diagnosed though.
Good luck and God bless. Please be sure to update us.

Two things, you need to go to the EGOSCUE website. I'm a certified posture alignment and pain management specialist. If things are out of line, these e-cises help reposition the skeletal structure to put you back in line. MUCH.....MUCH...MUCH of pain is due to muscular imbalances. I see it all the time. I live in Fishers. I actually have worked with Don Fischer, who's the annouoncer for the IU games. He came up to see me once or twice a month until we literally FIXED his problems. He can now play the golf he wants. I haven't heard from him in a while, but in my profession, when you don't hear from someone, it's because they're not hurting!!

Secondly, you might seriously consider a high quality probiotic. I'm NOT talking about Activia or anything of that nature. You need a probiotic that goes DIRECTLY to the gut and is not broken down by any stomach acids, etc. You should take a probiotic on an EMPTY stomach so that it does go directly to the gut.

I've researched supplements and vitamin companies, etc. for YEARS. I have recently come across a product that is TRULY a gold nugget!! The company is called QIVANA and they are a nutraceutical company that I have researched heavily AND met the docs who do the research, etc. This company's products are AMAZING!!! They are doctor DEVELOPED, not doctor endorsed.

Anyway, give me a call or send me an e-mail and we can talk more. I can send you some additional info, as well. I LOVE them! I have many clients on them and they say that if they don't take them, they go back to having their old problems. Anyway, my cell is ###-###-####. Hope to hear from you. D.

Find a DO that also does OMM and see if something is "out of place" and causing the pain. Pregnancy is wonderful, but it is a trauma to our bodies. Follow your instinct and keep pushing for answers, but don't forget to look at all possibilities.

It could be your gallbladder. My gallbladder problem showed up on the ultrasound but a friend of mine didn't. Her's was diseased and they had to run another test on her, which I can't remember, to determine it was her gallbladder. She didn't have nausea but pain on her side like you. I hope you will find something.

I just want to say good luck!!! A few years ago I was having bad pain in my abdomen on the right side. After a few days of pain and looking grey I finally went to the ER. Ended up having my appendix removed and it was actually fine they discovered after they got in there...but took it out anyways. Said it looked like Chron's Disease. So a month later I had a colonscopy and that's what they concluded it was...Chron's Disease. And that was with no symptoms other than pain. So I just want to wish you luck and to hope that you don't end up with that because it is no fun!!! I've not had a lot of bathroom issues with it but I've had problems with getting abscesses and being in a lot of pain with it. So good luck with everything!!!

Adrenal fatigue can cause strange pain, low back pain especially. Try putting on a 1/4-1/2 teaspoon of the over the counter cortisone cream- perhaps 3 x a day-8am, noon, 3pm, on wrist or where the skin is thin. See if this helps with your pain. If it does, you will need to have your adrenal hormones checked (Saliva cortisol test only- not a blood test).
Interestingly many heart conditions can be traced back to low or high adrenal hormones.

The other thing is perhaps having the baby moved a vertibrae or something out of position?
