In Need of Travel Agent in Irving/Mid-Cities Area

My husband and I are planning a trip to Germany this summer for our 5th Anniversary and to visit a long-time friend whose husband is currently stationed in Stuttgart. We were going to try to do it on our own but thought that a travel agent might be able to find cheaper airfares and be able to tell us how to "get around" or suggest a nice place for us to stay for a couple of nights (the rest of the time we will stay with my friend). I would appreciate any recommendations for travel agents or advice on things to see or do in or around Germany (within an 8 day period).....

What can I do next?

Try travel guides like Rick Steves. He has great guidebooks that help you find things that are away from the touristy traps. He also has good travel videos, which you might be able to find at your local library or on netflix (if you subscribe to that). His shows often air on PBS on Saturdays, too. I've traveled all over Europe and find that it's often easier to make the plans yourself, unless you can find a travel agent with expertise on the area you're going. I often like to just wait until I get there to figure out what I want to see & do (I usually have hotel pre-arranged, though, because you never know if you're arriving during some special event and all the hotel rooms are booked).

I'm not sure of any travel agents or places to stay.. but I just had to respond, you are going to have a wonderful time! Germany is just awesome! If you get the opportunity, go to Trier, it is the oldest city in Germany, full of beautiful architecture, lots of great shopping, lots of goodies (you must try something called "spaghetti eis" if you ask someone they will know what it is. (I believe its only about an hour and a half from Stuttgart), (we used to be stationed in Spangdalem). I could seriously go on and on, Have a great time!

If you can ask your friend to get you the tickets they can get better airfare buying at the Military Instulation. My sisters husband is retired Army in Germany and when we go visit she goes and buys the tickets and sends them to us, They also have great deals on trips all over Europe. We went to Paris for 3 days and it was under 200.00 that included hotel and breakfast and a tour bus for the whole trip. You might want to ask your friend to send you Euro's. They also get a better rate. Good Luck it is w beautiful place to visit.
