H.1.
I would go to Australia - hands down, no hesitation! Used to live there when I was little and it is sooooo beautiful! I hope one day I can go back.
My husband and have been given a wonderful gift from my father. In 2.5 years my husband and I will celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. We went on short cruise for our honeymoon but we really couldn't afford anything extravagant. I have always wanted to travel as well so for our 10 year anniversary my dad is going to pay for us to have a vacation. Our choice. He already has the money saved and told us we could go anywhere we want to for 2 weeks. He and my mother-in-law are going to each watch our kids for a week a piece. I'm not sure we will take him up on the offer for the entire two weeks but it would be nice to have a somewhat extravagant vacation. My dad has friends that are travel agents and will help us out. While it will be all expenses paid it will not be "money is no object" so I do have to be aware of expenses. If you had been given this kind of gift where would you go? What would you do? Would you go for the entire time? I have a looooooooooong time to consider this but wanted to see how everyone would respond.

Europe, the wife and I are planning to go there next Summer. Lucky you!!!
Galapagos. Tourists may not be able to go there for much longer.
I have heard Turkey is a great place to vacation, from several sources. It's exotic but tourist freindly with lots of history.
Wow! What a fantastic gift!
And, so many choices! U.S. Virgin Islands, Australia, Greece or Italy.
Hope you have a wonderful trip!
Bora Bora. It looks absolutely beautiful and you can stay on these huts that are above the water and have glass floors so you can see the fish below.

We just came back from a week in Kauai. Every time I go there, I have fantasies of ripping up my return ticket and staying there forever. It's so wonderful. We are planning our next trip there already. :)
Anywhere with blue skies and water! TAKE ME WITH YOU, LOL!
We love Hawaii , Maui. Been there 3 times absolutely love it.
Next stop... Tour of Europe.
I would go tropical. Absolutely.
White sands....warm breezes.....warm water.
Paradise.
I am so sick of cold and foggy weather in the Pacific Northwest.
You can die of hypothermia sticking your foot in the ocean.
Not to mention the parka you need to wear to keep from being wind burned.
Tropical ocean. Yes.
No question for me.
You are SO lucky!
That is awesome! What an incredible gift!
My husband and I will be celebrating our 10 year anniversary in 3.5 years and we have set a goal to spend it in Hawaii. We have both always wanted to go, so we figure that would be a good time to go. Have fun wherever you decide to go!
With those conditions...
Mars.
Which is my nickname for "all inclusive resorts". :) They could be ANYWHERE in the world, it doesn't really matter, since there's little to no 'cultural' stuff going on, their location is based almost purely on the weather (tropics or snow most typically). It could be a bio-dome on Mars.
Up front price. Massive discounts. Tons of things to do/ eat/ see... all paid for in advance.
Sandals is a really good one (tropical). If you're more snow-bunny, I THINK Whistler (BC) has an all inclusive package.
Where I'm headed next (with my son, though, so not romantic!) for 3-4 weeks, though, Is UK, then train it down to the Med (Balkans and Greece). Not including lodging (I'm staying with friends & family except for train sleep) the whole trip is going to cost about $2500-3k for 2 people. Lodging for half that time would probably double the cost to 5-6k.
I've never in my life been on a two week vacation, so it's hard to even imagine...
My stepdaughter and her husband just did a Mediteranean cruise for their belated honeymoon. They got to see a lot of places in a relatively short amount of time. They enjoyed it. My dad and his wife did an Alaskan cruise and really liked it.
My nephew and his partner went to Hawaii and though they found it beautiful, they said everything there was so expensive and wouldn't go again.
I like Mexico because things are not expensive there, but if I got this as a gift, I would be researching countries in Europe...
Canadian Rockies! The most beautiful place I have ever been. My husband
and I say we found heaven on earth. Since you come from Texas, you
would probably appreciate the fact that during the summer it is dry (like no
humidity) and in the low 70s. A far cry from Texas. There is so much to
do there.
I would say Hawaii as well. 6 years ago I won an all-expenses paid vacation anywhere Southwest Airlines flew for 2 people for 1 week & we seriously considered Hawaii, but decided it was too far away while our kids were so small in case there was some sort of emergency. We went to Disney World (yes, without our children) and it was absolutely the most fun week of our entire relationship.
Well, if it wasn't for their current economic problems I would go to Greece. However not in this economic climate, we actually cancelled a trip there last year because we were afraid of infrastructure breakdowns while we were on vacation there. So, in light of that, the Canary Islands in Spain.
ETA - ooohh, with two weeks you could do a transatlantic cruise! They start in Europe, so you could fly over and spend a day or two, then cruise to Florida, then fly home.
I highly recommend Europe. We did a Europe trip for our 10th. We went to England, Paris, and Germany. If you google "self-catering" for accomodations, you will find some really great deals on lodging. Hotels are expensive over there, but you can get a whole house or apartment for a fraction of the cost. Even if you paid the same price as the hotel, the self-catering is so much nicer. Hotel rooms in Europe are usually very small and expensive. Traveling within Europe is very inexpensive if you use their cheaper airlines. They do have restrictions on how much luggage you can carry, but they are inexpensive. Enjoy your planning! That is a great part of the fun of travel.
St. John, U.S.V.I. Paradise on earth. Lots to do if you are into nature. Otherwise, not much to do other than lounge on some of the worlds most gorgeous beaches.
However, it would be really helpful if you and your husband sit down and make a list of what you like to do on vacation. Both specific and also the types of things, generally speaking. A friend of mine once had to do this with a travel agent. It was awesome. She came up with something like: lots of activities for the kids, but also plenty of opportunities for relaxation, no need to think about meals, social interaction with other people, warm weather, some educational or historical activities. Just an idea! Good luck ...and I'm so jealous:)
Hawaii is absolutely amazing! You get a tropical paradise but have the convenience of it being American. Or if you don't mind a language barrier...Europe has so many amazing places. You'll have to decide if you want tropical or more of a sightseeing trip. Canary Islands and Spain are amazing and wonderful weather. Monte Carlo is awesome. Or you could do Italy, Ireland or England.
If you're wanted to stay closer and in the states...we always enjoy SanDiego.
Caymen Islands or Italy
