Hi everyone!
I'm likely to be prescribed antibiotics for a tooth infection but I am a breastfeeding mom; I know I should give my baby probiotics but not sure how much. Do you know of anything else that could help her to be the least impacted by the antibiotics?
Thank you for your help!
S.

I wanted to add something about the probiotics. It would be a good idea to give your daughter some as well. You can buy acidophilus powder at the health food store and mix it with water 3-4 times a day. I think it is about 1/4 teaspoon but it should say on the jar. The result is a sweet tasting water and you can use a medicinal syringe to squirt it into her mouth. We did this with my daughter when she had a kidney infection at 4 months and had to be on antibiotics and it was very helpful.

Also, if your daughter is only 7 months as it says on your profile you should not give her yogurt just yet. She is still too young and it could give her a tummy ache. Eat plenty of yogurt with live cultures yourself but stick to the acidophilous powder and plenty of breastmilk for her. I hope you feel better soon!

I took antibiotics while breastfeeding my 3 month old last year and had no trouble at all. She was too little for yogurt, but she was fine.

Hi S., I'm new on this board but when I was nursing and took antibiotics my son and I got a really bad case of thrush so I wanted to respond to you. Be sure to take acidophilus (sp?). You can find it at any health food store and if you take it the antibiotics won't impact your baby as much. D.

I had to do the same thing 2 years ago, and because it has been so long I've forgotten how much to give. I'd call your daughter's dr. and ask them how much to give her. Good luck!
