I give my 2 year old acidophilus in his milk or water when he is taking antibiotics to help with diarrhea and diaper rash. It works great. My 5 month old has a terrible diaper rash the last couple of days and I was wondering if it was ok to put a small amount in a pumped bottle to help it? thoughts?

Another thing you can do, is gently rub some breast milk directly onto his skin where his rash is. Breast milk has many wonderful uses, helping with diaper rash is one (also works great on acne!).

You can definitely put the probiotics (acidophilus) into a pumped bottle (after it's warm and not too warm) or you can clean your finger off, dip it into the powder up to your first knucle and have your child suck it off.

First, let me tell you how wonderful it is to hear that you are using Acidophilus for your little ones! What a great benefit you are giving them!!

I have used Acidophilus for my son since he was 3 months. I would put a 1/4 teaspoon in his pumped bottle when he had a diaper rash and it did help.

Hope this helps.

Absolutley. I think it's great that you give your 2yr old acidophilus as well. It's a great way to put the good bacteria back into the body after harsh antibiotics. Make sure your using a pure source of acidophilus so that you are getting the full potential of that product. I use Shaklee products and they have a little gel "pill" that can be broken open and just allow the baby to suck the liquid before breastfeeding or bottle.

It may be easier to just dip your finger in the bottle and let your baby suck it off your finger. This would also help to prevent thrush. You can do this 1-2x/day.

Dear A.,
I am a chiropractor and you may give your 5 month old acidophilus. It is the best thing you can do. You cannot harm him. Good job on being proactive and doing something natural.

I have also rubbed the acidophilus directly on the rash (mixed with a little vaseline), and it worked.

We use acidophilus or lactobacillis all the time a the hospital in which I work. YES, it is OK for a 5 month old! I'm glad to know that people are being proactive and going more "natural". The only problem with adding it to your breastmilk is that very few things will disolve in breastmilk. I know from experience that acidolphilus is not easy to disolve in breastmilk. It may disolve a little better in a small amount of lukewarm water. That's what we do!

I love acidopholus - it's very natural and a great immune booster. I have put it in my daughter's bottle since she was little. I have even sprinkled the powder from the capsule directly into the cream I put on her. The best antibiotics will be kept in the fridge (the bacteria is actually alive) and is found at a health food store. You also want to make sure you get an infant antibiotic, since babies tummies don't have all the strains of antibodies in them that an adult would. Look for a probiotic - it's multiple kinds of good bacteria (the acidopholus is one of many strains). Udo's is a great one. Hope that helps

You take it! It will end up in your breast milk and you both will get the benefits!
