I'm Not pregnant...so What Is Fluttering Around in My Lower Abdomen?

Hi Moms -

I have 4 kids, so I know full well what early fetal movements feel like, and this feels just like that. I've been noticing it for about two weeks, mostly when I first wake up in the mornings, but if I quiet down during the day I can sometimes feel it at other times. It's not painful, and I can't feel my uterus the way you can towards 3-4 months.

I do have some slight abdominal tenderness when I press on it, but I don't know if that's unusual. My BMs are normal, and I'm not feeling crampy, nauseous, or heartburny. I can't find any good info on the web about it...I'm wondering what it could be. Has anyone else experienced this? Any insight would be appreciated.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I don't have gas, not today :D...and I really don't think it's wishful thinking. Love my babies, but I am done. My hubz got the snip back in January, too.

Wishful thinking? I get it too and it makes me so wish I could get pregnant again....well I could... But my husband will run for the hills if I try.

I really think it's some kind of muscle spasms. I don't feel it as pain either. But sometimes I can sit and watch parts of my stomach twitch just like when I was pregnant.

The tapeworm thought its totally gross. But wouldn't a person be losing weight if they had one?

is it gas? I get that when I've got gas sometimes, it seems like my stomach is more sensitive to those kind of sensations now.

Not really sure what you mean by you can't feel your uterus the way you can towards 3-4 months.... Is that the reason you don't think you are pregnant. If it is, take a test to make sure. And, the snip isn't always 100%.

I would say to go talk to a doctor. Even though it doesn't hurt, it could be something more serious than just gas since it seem to have a pattern and has been going on for this long... tape worm, intestinal perforation, pelvic floor issues.... When was your last colonoscopy? Sometimes we get cysts in there and don't know it... It's always best to just have a professional double check to make sure.

Good luck and God bless!

I had this a many times during the year before I actually did turn up pregnant. I think it was stress related.

Happens to me now and then, totally feels like you have a baby in there so I know what you mean. It's just your intestines doing their thing.

Please see your ob/gyn first and if you're not pregnant (rule that out first), then ask him or her to really test and not make assumptions. This could be pregnancy -- or nothing at all (gas, muscle cramps) or something very serious (I'm not trying to scare you but there are several types of cancers that all can be in the abdominal area, and you have NO way to decide for yourself by seeing how you "feel" -- because women's organs down there are very complex and very close together; what "feels" like gas could be a tumor, what you're terrified could be a tumor could turn out to be gas).

Please do not rely on other people's experiences or insights. Only a doctor, proper and prompt testing, and some aggressive questions on your part can figure this out if it's anything other than a pregnancy.

just because your husband got a vasectomy doesnt mean you cant get pregnant, it happens everyday. there are only 2 ways to make sure for 100% you dont get pregnant, one is for you to have a hysterectomy and the other is to never have sex again. so, maybe you should go get a pregnancy test to be sure. unless you want to end up on "I didnt know I was pregnant"...lol

I get it too every so often, so does a friend of mine. Not too often though. We think it is muscle spasms. You could ask your OB or google it.

Does it at all feel like a tiny cell phone vibrating in your uterus? (haha!) If so, yes, I have felt that! It was apparently my ovaries reactivating after me having had a baby. I ovulated a few days later...and then got pregnant.

Maybe either fibroids or ovarian cysts. I'd have it checked out for peace of mind.
If you have a Gyn you trust, then visit them. If not, seek the advice of a midwife

I get it too. Have done the whole abdomen ultrasound and MRI...I had a hernia, that's fixed, still get the fluttering. I am with other on you should always talk to your doc., but I can tell you my insides have been thoroughly researched and no explanation for the fluttering. Couldn't find it online, either.

Could be your intestines - you don't have to have gas to sense the movement of waste products through peristalsis. Sometimes appendicitis is over on the side, but sometimes pain is referred to other areas. But there are other issues too - any strange abdominal things could be related to your ovaries or cysts. Sometimes uterine fibroids (benign growths) press on other things. So get checked out. Don't wait! That's the advice they are giving all women when they talk about preventing reproductive cancers. An ultrasound is painless and will probably show something regardless of cause - or rule it out.
