I am in my early 20's and I have always ahve a messed up period but now it is really bad. Last month in one day I will go through a huge number of pads and not to mension how many times I have to change my clothes because of such a huge gush. I ahve been on birthcontrol for 10 years and have had 2 children. Being on birht control I am olny able to be on something for 3-6 months because after so long I stop having a period. I was told many years ago that I may be develpoing endometriosis(sp) but I have had 2 healthy children and I am off of my birth control (nuva ring) because Ididn;t have a period for 4 months. We are trying to have another baby and it is so hard because I can't track my periods (my last one lasted 6 weeks) what do I do???

What can I do next?

That is very normal. I am going through the same thing right now. I just had a baby about 6 months ago. I have been on BC for about 7 years on and off. My Dr told me that it is very normal to have heavy long periods because you are not on the pill or anything. The BC actually controlls your period. If you are not on any form of BC then your period is trying to regulate itself. I have an IUD but it has no hormones in it. I sometimes have 13 day periods and a week later have a 4-5 day one. It is starting to get a bit more normal the longer I am off of BC. I would not worry and just use extra protection. You may have to use tampons with a pad too. That is what I have to do. I dont have many clothes changes anymore. Good luck concieving. Your body is just getting used to not having any hormones. It will be fine. I hated my IUD becasue of the periods too. I am getting used to it now. Good luck again.

Have you ever been tested for polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)? it can do a number on your periods. the follicles on your ovaries get blocked by chains of small cysts and there fore you cannot release an egg...which in turns triggers your body not to shed the lining of the uterus...no period. Then when a cyst ruptures and the follicle opens to release an egg, you finally have a very heavy peiod. PCOS can also make it difficult to lose weight, even if you eat right and excersie, and also cause dicolorations on your skin...like a dark ring across the back of your neck, and cause patches of abnormally dark hair. PCOS is caused from the body not being able to absorb insulin properly...hope this helps...M.

Seriously i would talk to your dr and see what he/she recommends. Cause it doesn't sound normal to me. I would be worried about this personally. I hope that you can find out what is going on with you.

I would check with your doctor because heavy bleeding can be a sign for fibroids.

Hi A.!

I would defintely get checked again for Endometriosis! Are you having an abdominal or low back pain? I had a little abdominal pain, went to my Gyno, was told it was probably vaginal dryness. One morning when I got up, I had abdominal pain, and I had a bulge on my abdomen as big as a golf ball. Had exploratory surgery right away, and it was endometriosis. My pain was still so bad that they did surgery again, found a cyst that was bigger than a grapefruit behind my uterus, and a tumor in one of my ovaries. I had a full hysterectomy, after being told that I was probably having pain from vaginal dryness? If you feel something is not right, do not stop until you get answers. Dr's don't know everything, so don't give up!
