C.J.
Hi J. -
What are some of your marketable skills? I'm a freelance writer, and I make a decent contribution to my household doing this sort of work. If you have strong writing skills, especially in the arena of marketing, advertising, or even technical fields, you should check out your local Craigslist.com and/or www.freelancewriting.com.
If you're not much into writing, there are TONS of home-based businesses like selling Avon, Creative Memories (scrapbook supplies), Mary Kay, Usborne Books, etc. Selling is not for everyone, but it could be something to look into just to get a feel for what you may want to do in the future.
One last suggestion, what about home daycare? My Aunt in California has been doing this for twenty years, and she had two kids of her own to raise! She makes upwards of $80k a year and has expanded her daycare and literally her home to accommodate more and more children. She even has two employees plus her daughter to help out. Taking care of other peoples' kids is not for everyone, but I can guarantee you that you'd get some regular business.
Blessings to you on your endeavors.
