Most millionaires are millionaires because they don't live like they are millionaires. I would likely shop wherever I wanted. =)

My uncles were all self made millionaires, they put on their pants one leg at a time. Never saw much difference between them and anyone else. They were what I call real people.

People with 'real' money lke that-esp the ones that have had it forever-are extremely down to earth I have found. And yes, they shop at Costco/TArget/etc. Its the new money people who don't and feel its beneath them and feel the need to prove their wealth.

Here's something I've observed about a lot of millionaires (we know a couple) and other people who do well financially - they are not "above" shopping at a big box store, keeping a car for 10 years, buying a home within their means. Now, it does surprise me that Romney in particular went to Costco but celebs regularly shop at Target. You get what you want where you want it. And maybe he just needed a change of scenery. Or likes to shop.

I love Costco. And it's a wonderfully run company.

You don't get to be worth $250M by spending everything you make.

anyway if i had over 250 million in money/assets then although i wouldnt unload the shopping cart in bad weather (i hate arrying things in in the rain) I would still shop. i like shopping most times.

Probably not. We're a family of 3 so honestly, we don't go there too often because we really don't need to buy in bulk. In fact, we didn't renew our membership this year due to that fact. That being said, I'm a relatively frugal person at heart and I never like to pay more than I need to for anything. I'm a big-time Ebay purchaser for that reason. What can I say, I like the "hunt."

ETA: so Romney shops at Costco and the Obama's shop at Target. I think that's great.

YES! Probably because every time I go I have to refrain from buying things that I want. Same with grocery shopping.
It would be lovely to go ANYWHERE and just be able to throw it in my cart and not have to count every penny to make sure that I can afford it.

Why not? I would not change my personal habits just because I hit some lotto. The money would not make me better than anyone else, I am who I am.

I most certainly would continue to clean my house, do my shopping and clean up my kitchen.

We are not hurting financially. I see no reason why to pay someone else to do what I can do for myself. In the long run, my account grows instead of dwindling because I am not paying people to do things for me. I save the money I would spend on employees and I save because I shop Costco.

I get where you are coming from... if you hate to shop, etc then I can see where you would pay someone to do it for you. We all have different priorities, nothing wrong with that!

Yes. I don't think its a big deal. I would shop wherever I normally do but would give a whole lot of money away to those that need it. Why shouldn't Mitt Romney shop at Costco??? It saves money and its smart.

I think those of us that have never had affluence thing differently that those who have it all around them. They just see it as normal life. To them it's just what is, not a big deal.

If I had 250 million then the taxes got paid and I had 100 million plus a few left overs I would hire a full staff of people to take care of the mundane things in life. Heck, I might never have to run the vacuum again.

I do think that those of us that struggle with day to day financial issues would spend it differently than those who have money already.

Costco? Maybe not. I hate going there, although I do. But regular grocery shopping or Target or BedBath&Beyond or other places? You bet I woul....wait, $250 MILLION? Nah, I'd have a personal chef who would do all the grocery shopping and cooking and a personal assistant to manage all the rest of it.

It's his wife that shops there mostly. She also talked about her strategy to navigate thru the store. And she said she sometimes buys Mitt's dress shirts there, slacks, under shirts etc.

The Romney's don't have to be *flashy* like celebrities. They don't have paparazzi following them everywhere, so I would imagine they don't feel the need to put on a show every time they leave the house.

The Romney's are an amazing family with great morals and upstanding character, so no this doesn't surprise me at all.

I don't even think my assistants would be shopping at Costco. All food would be organic and all products would be top of the line. (Not that Costco's products are bad.)

If I were worth $250 million, and needed something from Costco, I would have my personal assistant go there for me. Of course, she'd drive there in her luxury SUV that I would so graciously buy for her to do my errands in.

Yes and yes. I love to shop. I'm a family of 1 and I shop at Costco. There are price reductions on lots of things that aren't in bulk. I bought my TV at Costco for about $50-75 less. When I purchase an Executive membership I get the cost of the membership back at year end as a bonus check.

Look at Warren Buffett...he's rich, rich, rich and he still dines and lives pretty ordinarily.

Personally, I don't even buy Powerball tickets if the jackpot gets up there because one of the few things I'm fairly certain of in life is that I would NOT want that kind of wealth. Anything beyond about $10 million (enough to retire and live comfortably in my ordinary existance going on doing what I want without having to work) would undoubtedly cause me more unhappiness than joy. So, I don't even chance the bad karma of winning a vast fortune. LOL.

I can't say. I've never been inside of a Costco. Maybe that's why I'm not worth $250 million?
