Ideas on Sending Food or Something

One of my good friends called to let me know her father passed away earlier today. I will not be able to make it to the funeral, but would like to do something for she and her family. I know people usually take food to the family, but since I'm in Texas, and she's in Indiana, I know that's not possible. Is there anyway to have some type of food sent? Or what have you done for close friends and family in other states? I will send flowers or something for the funeral, but would like to something else.

What can I do next?

Try alazing.com. They ship complete meals frozen and ready to heat up/cook. I did that for my sister when she was in Virginia, and she loved it. Their prices are pretty reasonable, too.

Harry & David has some lovely baskets, and there's also a company called "edible arrangements" that will deliver nationwide. I've used Harry & David personally and their stuff is beautifully done (but some of it is a bit on the pricy side). Maybe you could do a google search for food baskets located in the town your friend lives in... just a few suggestions.

I like Harry & David, too. There will be alot of people bringing food that needs to be eaten soon, but a great basket with an assortment of goodies and fruits would be around for awhile and fill in between meals.

The most important thing is that you're thinking of her and her family and whatever you send she'll know you were there for her.

I actually did this for a friend who lives far away. I don't remember the company I used, but I was able to have a full meal sent. A Google search turned up this site: http://www.sendameal.com/occasion_meals

However, it might be easier to find a restaurant or catering company in her area that delivers. You could use her zip code and check www.yellowpages.com for listings near her.

I know that places like Jason's Deli deliver, and many of the chain restaurants offer it.

If you want to send a meal, you can always call a local resturant (local to her) that delivers and they can deliver food but charge it to your card.

We have done this before with Jason's Deli. You can do all of your ordering online and they have a great selection.

I highly recommend Dallas based Goodies from Goodman. They have food offerings (like baked hams/turkeys, fruit, nuts, etc.) and they make nice gift combinations and can do flowers too: www.goodiesfromgoodman.com
Their customer service is exceptional, as I was ordering late for Christmas one year and knew some things might be late (but it was my family and they're used to it) and I just did regular shipping. They upgraded my gifts to 2 day shipping at no extra charge to get things there by Christmas.

If your friend's dad died from a long-term condition, or was especially fond of a particular charity or group, you can make a donation in his memory. I'm sure the whole family would appreciate that!
