My daughter is turning 6 next month and wants to have a Princess-themed party. She wants to invite about 8 girls over. We are stumped on ideas for the party. All we have come up with is to dress up like princesses. Any ideas for activities, goody bags, decorations (on a budget)? Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

Have everyone dress like princesses and then have a craft where they all make either tiaras or princess hats with pretty paper, gems and the tule flowing down the back (super cheap). For the gift bags, the dollar store has princess wands, candy, slippers, jewelry, etc. so you can go nuts. They even have packages of 6 for a dollar - all princess stuff!!! You may even be able to find self sticking gems, paints, etc. at the dollar store too.

Good luck!

We just did a princess party for our daughter's 5th birthday in January. I combined some ideas I found on the internet and created a "royal" invitation. I used royal words (i.e. Hear ye Hear ye, etc.). All the girls were invited to wear "their finest princess attire" (we had extra princess dresses just in case). I had princess coloring pages (you can print them or use from a coloring book which is what I did) for the girls to color until everyone got there. They decorated pink foam crowns (Hobby Lobby) with foam stickers and stick on plastic jewels. My husband and I made a castle cake (similar to the one described by Jane M., with the ice cream cones). I found some great goody bags at Party City (it was a package of 8) that already had all the stuff in them - wands, stickers, bracelet, ring - and the price was right. Everything was pink - plates, cups, napkins, table cloth. That made it easy because I was able to find plates and stuff cheaper at Target than at Party City.
Good luck and have a grand time! :)

we had everyone come in princess dress.
decorations- none - I had the girls meet us at McDonalds playland. I brought in my own cake and bought everyone ice cream sundaes. total cost $7!!!
activities - we put blush, lip gloss, and nail polish on the girls. then we did a fashion show and took tons of pictures. total cost $0
goody bag - I did dollar store crown and little pink purse with dollar store glam jewlery. It cost me $3 per kid and I invited 5 girls.

We had a blast and all the girls asked when the next party will be. All the parents were giving me that wink and approving nod that I did good on a budget. :)

Check your local walmart craft section. We found foam kit to make princess wands. If I remember correctly the kit was $5 for 20 or so wands. Make cupcakes that each princess can decorate with sprinkles and candies. Play musical chairs using disney princess music. You can find a ton of free songs from the disney movies online. Actually now that I'm remembering it I bought the disney princess sing along cd from amazon for $1, check there. Of course everyone should dress up like a princess :) Check your local dollar store they usually have tiara's and little disney princess jewerly there that you could put in the goody bags. I made my daughter a cake with purple icing, pink decorations piped on and then used a dollar store tiara and wand to top it with. Have fun.

We did a princess party for my 4yr old so here is what I have: I had a sheet cake made w/ pink and purple decorations then I added the disney princess decorations that come with a castle candle and a picture of my daughter in a tiara, I used purple plates for the food and small assorted disney princesses plates for the cake and icecream. The food was mostly cookies and pigs in a blanket (finger/tea party type of foods) and pink lemonade. I got plastic wine-goblets and adhesive jewels for the kids to decorate them with. The girls made magic wands, the boys decorated shields. They can also make their own crowns/tiaras. We also did pin the kiss on the frog. For the goody bags I just had some princess fruit snacks and candies, fairy tale finger puppets, and the crafts they made (cup, tiara, and wand).

If you want to do a craft, you can go to a craft store and get stuff to make and decorate crowns. My daughter just turned six and the little craft thing was a hit. You could put on music and have a "ball" where they all dance. If you feel like being really brave (haha) you can let them do their own make-up (although they'll end up looking more like clowns than princesses!). But they'll have so much fun.

As for a "princess cake," I don't know if you're the cake-making type, but a castle cake is easy to make. Make two square cakes, one about 4X4 inches and one 8x8. Put the small one on top of the big one and frost. If you then frost 4 ice cream cones (the pointy kind) and put them upside down on the corners of the bottom layer, they look like turrets. Then decorate with icing for doors and windows, etc.

Have a good time!

My girls had a princess party one year, and we were on a very tight budget at the time. I made just about everything for the party myself. I bought some pink craft sticks (you can paint them pink yourself) and used clear tape to attach a long pink ribbon to each one, you can use crepe streamers instead. Then when the girls came they each got a "magic wand" and danced around our living room to princess music, I had a CD called Tressa the Magical Princess, but a mix of Disney Princess songs from the movies would work really well. They danced with their wands and with the pink balloons I had blown up. After that we played Pin the Ponytail on the Princess. I made that game with a large buletin board, peach colored paper, colored pencils, and yellow yarn. You need to cut a face shape from the peach paper, trace it first, just try for an oval, narrower at the bottom for the chin and wider at the top. Color in facial features and then tape it to the board. I cut out a fringe of yarn for bangs by wrapping the yarn around a ruler then cutting it off on one side. Attach the bangs with glue, a hot glue gun would be best but Glue-all will work as long as you give it plenty of time to dry. Then create a ponytail of yarn by wrapping the yarn around something like a book then cutting it off and tying it with a hair band. Attach the ponytail to a large push pin or use tape depending on the age of the kids or the amount of supervision available, I used a pin and no one got hurt. You blindfold the girls one by one and they try to pin the ponytail on the princess, it is fun to see where it gets pinned! Another idea would be pin the crown on the princess, that would be even easier, just make a paper or foil crown to pin on. Then we had a treasure hunt, I had decorated an empty shoe box with ribbon, glitter, plastic jewels, etc. and hidden it beforehand. There were clues written on little pieces of paper leading the girls to different places in the house where another clue was waiting for them, the last clue told them where the treasue box was. There was candy and cheap prizes from the dollar store in the treasure box. I gave them each a treat bag to put their loot in and I made sure it was divided evenly. You can also have them decorate their own treat bags before the treasure hunt with paper bags, crayons, stickers, etc. After the treasure hunt we just had cake and ice cream, I made a cake that looked like a castle, there are simple directions online or in magazines like Family Fun. Then gift time and then parents came to pick them up. It was a kind of short party, there are lots of other party games you can play for a longer party, my girls were pretty little at the time and so an hour to an hour and a half was the longest amount of time we could hope for without them getting too tired or over excited and having meltdowns. Good luck, I'm sure your party will be great!

If its just princesses in general this could be so easy and fun but if you are looking to do like Disney Princesses then I think you will need to go to a specialty store for party decorations. If its not then you could get cheap costume jewelry from the dollar store and tiaras and feather boas. Use all pink and purple decor, plates, cups, utensils, table clothes. Maybe pick up a kit to make jewelry and have that for all the girls attending to do together or purchase or print off colouring pages with princesses. Get pre packaged hard candy princess cupcake toppers or if you are creative draw on the cake a picture of a tiara and stars and a wand etc and add sparkly sprinkles. Have a disney princess movie playing at the party in the background. OMG this sounds like so much fun

pastel-colored everything! Balloons, streamers, food, drinks. Jewelry spilling over the tabletops....inexpensive tulle/netting also works well for this! In fact, if it's cheap enough, buy yardages of the tulle & let the girls go crazy with dressing up in it!! You will be amazed at what the girls can create with just a few props....& be sure to take lots of photos of their design creations!

For my daughter's party my husband made a "castle entrance" that we hung up in front of our door. You could do something like that and take pictures of each girl in front of it. Then you could let them decorate a cheap foam frame to put their princess picture in.

My daughter had a Princess theme for her 5th birthday and we did nail painting aswell , this with a art/craft for when they first arrive , a party game (we did musical chairs) and a pinnata (sp) , then pizza and cake and it was time to wrap it up. For decorations I had a princess table cover and paper plates , we had pink helium filled ballons (1 each for the kids) and cut the strings so they were just out of reach and they make the room look good just floating on the ceiling , then the goody bags were again princess bags , and they had in a beaded necklace , a princess pencil and eraser , a temporary tattoo and a mini chocolate bar.
