Ideas for "Get to Know You" Meetings

Our church normally has bible studies on Thursday nights. However, we are taking off the month of January and doing home groups instead. I am hosting one for women. It is NOT going to be a Bible study, but more of a "making friends" and "getting to know each other" time.

So I'm looking for a game or some kind of "question/answer" thing that we can do each week to get to know each other better. Either a game I can buy or do on my own is fine. I can't think of anything so I'm hoping you guys can help! Thanks much!!!

What can I do next?

How about a 'people scavenger hunt'? You make a list of questions about the people who are attending such as:

Who's favorite color is_____?

Who never misses an episode of ____?

Who loves to garden?

This way everyone has to mingle and talk to each other. I would do between 10 - 20 questions depending on how many people are going to be there. You could offer a prize such as a gas card for the most correct answers in 30 minutes.

Two truths and a lie....we played at a cookie exchange. Each person lists two things that are true about themselves, and one falsehood. Each person reads them and everyone guesses which one is a lie. You get a point for each one you guess correctly and you can give a prize to the winner =)

I don't know what the game is called, but this is one I like....

One person sits in a chair in the middle of the room and starts talking about themselves...

"Hi, My name is K. and I'm originally from Florida. I am married and have 3 children"

As soon as the speaker says something that someone else can relate to, they chime in and switch chairs...

"I also have 3 children. (now this person switches chairs with K.). My name is Stephanie. I am a nurse at Wilson Medical Center"

Then someone else can chime in...

"I'm a nurse too! (now this person switches chairs with Stephanie). Hi! My name is Amy. I am a school nurse. I am new to bible study. I love cooking and scrapbooking".

You get the idea? Most people will flip flop out of the speaker's chair 3-5 times!

i'm not sure how the games will work if you have under 10 people,

what about finding a church approved personality inventory like the 5 love languages or the one about golden retrievers or.what ever and completeting that together, if people volunteer info you could really get to know alot about them, but they also wouldn't HAVE to divulge too much.

I'm a very private person- so I cringe EVERY time I see a roll of toilet paper come out at a gathering.
I prefer parties when the games are of an ice breaking nature. Pass the parcel (I did that at my baby shower-but we passed a poem), pictionary, or some of the fill in the blank puzzles that you have to do as a group.
Having the group give you ideas for future gatherings is a good idea too. They might have some great ideas for themes or activities.

Maybe for the upcoming weeks, each person can take turns, in coming up with a game or activity.
Then that way, you and only you... will not have to do it every single week.
And with other people taking turns with coming up with a "game", then that will also help to break the ice.

Pictionary?

My mom teaches college classes and her favotire first day activity involves a roll of toilet paper. She simply passes the roll around and tells people to take however much they want. Then they have to answer certain things about themselves PLUS however many fun facts as they have squares of tissue. It's always fun!

I like this because it's also fun - instead of making people nervous :).

I've played people bingo. Very similar to the people scavenger hunt.
