Hi S.,
You can get plastic eggs that you can open up and put a fun item inside for your son to find. Don't feel bad about being considered no fun. I didn't give sweets to my daughter until she was 2 (with the exception of a taste of her birthday cake when she turned 1 and special occassions) and now people always compliment how she doesn't eat a lot of sweets.
I was obese when I had my daughter, and I know how hard it was to unlearn unhealthy habits. I've been losing weight so now I think I might be close to just being overweight so I feel there is nothing wrong with teaching a child early that sweets can be a part of a healthy diet, but in moderation. So all the core food groups were introduced to her first so she knew what the staples were for her diet and now she's learning that a piece of candy or chocolate is okay every now and then.
Her first easter I got her I think a stuffed animal and last year I got her a sand pail, which I filled with two things for scooping/playing in the sandbox and some little prizes and she got to find her basket. I also colored eggs for the first time so she got to watch and help with that. This year she will get to be more involved with the eggs (coloring them with crayons before I dip).
