Any gift ideas for my stepdaughter?
She is 14 1/2 and is into music, iPod, iPad, computer. That's about it.
She changes the shops the likes to buy clothing from so I don't really want to buy her a gift certificate if I can get something else.
She's in high school.
Already has cute stuff for her room.
Gets regular mani/pedi's.
Doesn't wear jewelry.
Has 1 friend but they don't like to do much together. They get together once in awhile.
Is kind of an tweener (in between high schooler & no longer a young kid.).
Does not have a hobby but again doesn't like "little girl" stuff.
See my plight? I want to get her something cool or fun.
It can't be an outing. She's not into those anymore.
TIA

What can I do next?

Since she's into music, you could get her an i-tunes gift card to add music or movies to her i-pod or ipad. Maybe concert tickets to her favorite music group and make a day of it with her. Hope it helps.

I have a daughter the same age

Get her a fun nail kit where she can paint and do designs on her nails.
Get her some makeup and some fun hair things.
What about a straightener/curler?
iTunes giftcard
Online magazine subscription
Perfume
If there's particular jeans she likes, just make a certificate for a pair at the store of her choice
Sunglasses

I'd say an Itunes gift card or just a gift card in general (Target, Visa, etc).

Sounds a lot like my 9 year old, and she can be difficult to shop for as well. Itunes cards always go over well!

At this age, gift certificates and cash are always the best. It's okay if she changes the shops she goes to, just get her a gift certificate from the mall, or a credit card gift certificate that she can use anywhere - even online.

You could find out the usual color she gets painted on her nails and buy her that along with a gift certificate to the salon she goes to.

Honestly though, at that age (and going forward) I remember being happiest with gift certificates that allowed me the option to spend wherever I wanted or good ol' hard cash.

Not that you're going to spend this much, but one of the best things my parents ever gave me for Christmas was 100 $1.00 bills stuffed in a funky pair of socks. At first, I was like, ugh, what the heck is this and then I started pulling all this money out and loved it. My Dad hated giving cash or gift certificates, so I knew it was a way for them to do something fun & meaningful.

Check out Groupon. I got my 15 year old nephew one for Paintballing for him and 3 friends. I think the iTunes gift card is a good idea too. Also, mani/pedi places do gift certificates, maybe branch her out to a spa style as well. When in doubt, a card and cash is always great for teens in HS as they may want to save for Prom or other school activities. Giving cash is an asian tradition, we just don't buy gifts and I think more people are open to that now.

well, it sounds like she "has it all".

time to branch out...

you say she doesn't like outings anymore....not even a shopping trip to someplace new/different? With that one friend, to boot?

time to think outside of the box....try to clue in on something which interests her! I think the rest of us are shooting in the dark. :)

I got my 4-year old son "Illustory", which is where the child can write and illustrate their own book and send it away and it comes back as a hardcover book. My son loved it. He's the hero of his own book and we ride it at night too. Illustory has won several awards for educational toys.

Girls are SOOOO much fun! I have 2 girls, 13 and 16 (17 next month) and every year I have so much fun buying for them.
As the parent, we always "get them what they need" throughout the year, our time to really shine is their birthdays.
Girls may "seem" difficult, but really when we take a minute to think about it, we can get to who they really are.

Maybe it's not so much about the "thing" you give them, but how you help them celebrate!

Some of the ideas I have done for my girls were:
** a "shopping spree" - I took her and a friend into one of their favourite stores and they had 1 min to pick what they wanted. Of course I told them ahead of time that I would be taking them to one of 3 stores (so they had to do some prep work for it) and whatever they picked up had to fit them. It was so much fun, the manger even gave them 10% off of their purchases!

** we did an "amazing race" we got 12 of their friends together and made 3 teams of 4. They were given a parent with a car and the first clue. Each clue took them to the next location where there was "challenge" and the next clue. EX: the first clue read, where can you be Tiger Woods, Mario Andretti and Babe Ruth all in the same hour?" It was the local outdoor amusement park. They had to get there and at the location they had to get a hole in one before they got their next clue. It was so much fun!

**we had a "minute to win it" party when my daughter turned 15. We found the events on line and created challenges with regular household items. We had prizes and buzzers and everything.

**When my oldest became a "teenager" I sent her and a friend to one of the best restaurants in town, "no parents allowed" and set them up for a wonderful evening. The servers treated them like royalty. She still talks about it.

Micky, be creative, and how fun with it!

I'd probably do a pre-paid Visa or Master Card. Then she can use it anywhere they're accepted.
