Ice Cream Birthday Party Ideas

Before I start, yes, I know this game is a waste of food, but it is soooo fun and the boys especially will love it! I am assuming that you will have marshmallows on hand for the ice cream sundaes. Everyone who wants to play puts a marshmallow in their mouth and says "chunky monkey", then a second marshmallow, then a third and so on, when you can't say chunky monkey anymore you're out. Whoever fits the most marshmallows is the winner. Kind of disgusting, but kids love it.

I think with ice cream as your theme, you will need to be careful they don't overeat. What if you did a "snowball" fight? Wad up a bunch of white tissue paper and separate them into teams. Set a timer, and the winning team is the one with the least snowballs left on their side. They could do it several times and have lots of fun. That would fit the theme closely enough without making the entire focus of the party about eating.

Water relay: Make the following set up for each team: Place a bucket of water with a large sponge on a line, across from it a few feet away place an empty bucket. Make two teams. The race is to submerge the sponge in the bucket of water, run with the sponge to the empty bucket and squeeze the water out of the sponge, run back to the bucket with the water and hand the sponge to the next team member who does the same thing. The first team to empty their bucket of water by filling the sponge and squeezing the water out of it in the other bucket wins. Lots of fun!!!! I hope I explained that o.k, Not good at explaining games.

Maybe try an ice cream tasting game - have some different flavors of ice cream, blindfold the kids, and have them guess what the flavors are.

We always have crafts at our birthday parties. The kids always like to do them. You can probably come up with some kind of an ice cream centered craft from the internet. We have gotten the wooden cars from the craft stores and painted them. Some could resemble ice cream trucks. You could have them decorate their ice cream trucks.

We have done baggy ice cream. The kids shake it up in a couple of zip lock bags. The kids have fun but I think it would complicate the ice cream sundae too much.

Building on what another mom said you could do a spoon relay where the kids have to carry some type of topping item (M&Ms or maybe even cotton balls) from one area to another.

Maybe there is some type of cooperative contest you could do - like seeing which team could build the tallest structure - out of straws, toothpicks, gumdrops, and marshmallows. You could use the scenario that they are building their own ice cream stands or you could ask them to see who can build the tallest Sundae.

Otherwise, I would keep it short and simple.

Have you thought of pin the ice cream on the cone (similar to pin the tail on the donkey)?

What about a bounce house kids love those
or a ballon game where you take a blown up ballon and a string about 2ft long tie it around the ankle and have the kids run around and try to pop each other's ballon

Oh gosh, not an ice cream eating contest. They would get sick eating so much ice cream!
Why not just have the usual party ideas? Pin the tail on the donkey is always a favorite at our parties, no matter what theme it is. We also have a balloon popping contest. I blow up a ton of balloons before the party, put them all in the living room area. When the game begins, they all just start sitting on balloons. You kinda have to keep score. And it is very loud but the kids love it. Whoever wins gets a grand prize goodie bag on the way out the door as they are leaving.

Love this theme and your giveaway...too cute!!! How about doing a spoon hanging contest...have the kids hang spoons on their noses and whoevers lasts the longest wins! Also, maybe put some ice cream toppings like chocolate chips, M&Ms, and peanuts in some jars and have them guess how many items are in the container. Then you can open them and the kids can use them for their sundaes. I like the idea of flavor tasting, that was really cute too. What about doing a make your own recipe contest, and they can make up a recipe and the birthday girl can judge which one she thinks would be the best. Okay, my last idea is a little goofy and at 7 they might not want to do it, but what about having the kids do a relay by putting a banana under their chin and having to pass it down the line without using hands. It would be hilarious to watch and the worst thing that would happen is an exploding banana. I think it can be done with an orange too, but bananas go more with your theme. If you get some long bananas it could work. Sounds like a blast!

Why don't you try having them make their own icecream? I'm sure you can google the recipe :) It's not hard and at that age they can follow directions!

Pin the cherry on the ice cream sundae?

I'd suggest a different type of contest. As a mom, I'd be HAPPY if you'd fill them up with something ELSE before feeding them ice-cream. As you would not drink alcohol on an empty stomach, I would not like to deal with a sugar-drunk child who has had nothing else to eat.

Even if you don't have an eating contest (which is unhealthy and can make a child sick), perhaps hotdogs and hamburgers, and low/no sugar snacks like Chex Mix and a veggie tray prior to the ice-cream would be a good idea. Also, plenty of low/no-sugar drinks.

Treats are great, but if they are going to be running about, playing games and such, you might consider the possibility of stomach upset brought on by too much sugar. Eating prior will buffer the possibility of you having to stop and clean up vomit.
