I have noticed that in my area (Clearview) that there are a lot of nudey mocha stands and I find it very disgusting. There is one particular mocha stand that advertises "double d's" and the girls wear nothing but a see-through thong, pasties, and a scarf. I don't want to see that and I don't want young girls to see that! Not to mention the traffic that it creates because all the disgusting old men slow down as they pass trying to get a peek. I have a 1-year-old daughter and as she grows up I don't want her to think that selling your body is ok. I know there have been a lot of people who have tried putting a stop to these stands and they were unsuccessful. Although I have an idea... instead of trying to get them to go away (because they won't), why don't we try to make it so we can't see them!?! I want to make it so the windows have to be tinted and cannot face the street, or put up a barrier so people from the street can't see inside.

I want to make this happen but I have no idea where to begin. Is there anyone out there that has experience or just knows how to go about this?

Please help me! For our daughter's sake!

I just want to let everyone know that I'm not as upset about the bakinis as I am with the pasties and see-through thongs and the stories of the barista girls flashing or doing sexual favors for extra tips. I understand that these days sex is everywhere, we can block certain channels on our tv but why should we have to look the other way when we are driving to the grocery store?

What can I do next?

E. - How funny, I just drove by that stand last night! I work in Clearview as a nanny for a little girl (age 3) and have noticed that on one side of the street you will see the scantily clad stand and across the street you will see ones that advertise "family friendly".
I have two boys, ages 4 and 7 and there is one over by us...no scarves, just pasties and G-strings. The other day we drove by and my son, 4, blurts out, "MOM!! She forgot her clothes!" It gave me an opportunity to say how I felt about that.
Here's the deal. You don't have to go to them. You don't have to look at them. You know where they are so you are a bit more careful when you drive by them. Thankfully there are only about 2 stands on the right side of HWY 9 that are "slutty" dressed.
Believe me, I think they are gross too. I have to say that my son blurting that out was the FIRST time anyone has said ANYTHING to me about it. I have a feeling your daughter has no idea they are there. Sarah (my charge) lives in Clearview, has never said a word. her sister (age 10) has not said anything either.
It's a teaching opportunity (yes, isn't that horrible that she would forget her clothes. now everyone can see her privates, she must be so embarassed. It's too bad she thinks so little of herself (as they get older)), but it's not illegal, just whorish.

E.,

oh my gosh, I totally agree with you!! I am a mother and a teacher and am so disgusted that having naked baristas is legal!! I don't drink coffee and only go to Starbucks for cocoa or tea sometimes, but it bugs me so much when I drive by a place like that and the traffic is a mess because of the gawkers! Why is this allowed when wearing hardly any clothes on the street would get you arrested? It just shows that they must have horrible coffee if that is the only way they can get business. Of course, my husband loves the idea, but I don't want my boys to turn into the "typical" male like that to reward degrading women. I am sorry I can't give you any answers, but I totally support you and will help in any way to get those tramp stands covered or closed!!

Try going to the beach there is really nothing wrong with it.
There is girls wearing bikinis at the beach, hardly wearing nothing at all, and really as far as little kids are, you really are just hiding it from them, they will be exposed to more of that later when they grow up, so really we are all in a rude awakening when it comes to that sorta stuff, just look around its everywhere, movies, coffee stands, waitresses, comercials, so i guess what iam trying to say is its really getting worse and i don't think we can stop it, you just gotta roll with the times.........times do change, people change. good luck trying to stop all of them
Its not illegall, otherwise you wouldn't be able to wear bikinis at the beach. Good -luck

I have no idea how to go about it, but I just wanted to say that I've noticed the "uprise" of them around there. I teach in the area... Very odd that they're popping up. I agree with you, but sorry I'm no help. :)

Hello E.,

You need to get into the political aspect of running a city, and county. I'm pretty sure Clearview is outside of the Snohomish limits (it is Snohomish right, or is it Woodinville?) Well, anyway, you need to get to the people who deal with the non county (unincorporated) - your Snohomish county representatives - who won in the local race? Contact them over and over and over and over and over again. Get a group together that support you and be LOUD - squeaky wheel here gets the oil right? There is probably some loop hole that the coffee stand owners have found - is that unincorporated Woodinville?, no, it is unincorporated Snohomish, wait, no it isn't a town at all - set up shop here.

Best of luck!

M.

Sorry for the length of this, but I am posting an email forwarded to me this morning. Perhaps you could contact the people below to see what can be done with the Clearview stands.

Thank you!!!

Hello everyone, I have an update on the Grab and Go Bikini Hut on 128th(132nd) and Bothell Everett Hwy. Today they were inspected by the health dept. and closed down immediately. They can reopen once they fix all the health code violations. However, They have also been served an eviction notice by the landlord which goes to court on Monday 11/9. Depending on how the Judge rules, The Grab and Go Bikini Stand could be permanently closed as soon as Wed. of next week. If it should happen to go to trial it could take longer.

Also, today I received the following e-mail from Kim Cole (who, by the way, won her seat on the Lynnwood city council. It is very encouraging and shows that we are moving in the right direction. I have included it below.

Subject: Public Unveiling of Barista Ordinances

Hello,

On Monday November 9th at 10”30AM two ordinances will be presented by staff, to the council in an open public meeting, marking the first public availability of the ordinances designed to address the issue of Adult Baristas. The two ordinances, one from Council Chair Cooper and the other from Councilman Gossett , have been harmonized to make a more complete effort at addressing the problem.

Councilman Cooper is very pleased with the policy coming forward and I also believe the result will be a complete covering of the many issues I have spoke with so many of you about that have arisen from these stands.

Public meeting being held at:

Snohomish County Council Chambers
Located in the Administrative East Building (same campus as courthouse, two buildings down)
3000 Rockefeller Ave. – 8th Floor
In Everett
Parking is available in the campus garage. Public access is located off Oaks Ave.

PLEASE NOTE: There will not be a public comment period this time. Rather, this is a public meeting for the formal presentation and QA time by staff members and the council. This step in the process is designed for council and staff to be afforded the chance to discuss, debate, clarify, make requests, etc before and in preparation for the hearing to decide the outcome of the proposals. That formal hearing will contain the public comment period and be your opportunity to share your stories and requests.
The scheduling of that hearing date (for one, both or none of the proposals) will be the outcome of this session.

Hearing information will be distributed promptly to this list once I have it.

If you prefer or are unable to make the meeting, materials and video will be available on the website under the Administrative Session drop down menu (then select 11/9 10:30AM option) at:
