I Think My Daughter Gets Carsick.

I have a two-year-old daughter who tends to throw up whenever she cries a lot, or coughs a lot. Recently we went on a 45 minute trip in the car, and she threw up. She hasn't been sick, and she wasn't upset, but she did whine a little before she threw up. I suffered with motion sickness as a child, and still do occasionally. I think maybe that I have passed it on. I was wondering if anyone else has gone through this, and have any advice. I am so tired of cleaning puke covered clothes and carseat covers. Any advice?

What can I do next?

def, talk to your ped. but there are dosages on dramamine for 2 yr olds. its half a tablet I think , same dosage I have to use for my dog when we take him in the car. I my self get car sick and I use dramamine or a pepper mint or even Ginger altoids they are a bit spicy though.

PS sounds like baby boy needs to be evicted LOL.

It could be carsickness or it could be reflux. I'd take her to the doctor to rule out reflux first.

Depending on how often she does this a week it calls for a doctor visit to her Ped.

So sorry...well, first of all, contact your doctor for sure.

If he/she thinks it's motion sickness, and is okay with the following, try them. I get horrible motion sickness and here's what helps me...

1. Don't give Emily books or toys in the car. If she gazes through the windshield, it might help. I know it seems impossible but just point out things that are in view of the windshield.
2. Keep snacks in the car (no sugar) like crackers or other crunchy/salty carbs. If you approve, a little gingerale can be helpful.
3. If your doctor thinks it's okay, try giving her a little candied ginger. If you're going on a trip longer than 20 minutes, just offer a little nibble periodically.
4. Try to travel during naptime. Put on her favorite bedtime cd to encourage a nap.

Good luck and congrats!

My daughter does the same thing. We have only had one car episode, but like you said she whined a little before. I am right now battling her pollen allergies because as soon as she gets nasal drainage she coughs till she throws-up. I get so scared when she does this because she doesn't feel sick and wants to eat and drink all day, but she ends up not keeping much down. The doctor said she has an ear infection as well as a sinus infection from the allergies and she is on antibiotics and Children's Claritin. This seems to have helped her not get sick, but I have no clue why this happens. My husband said he was the same way when he was younger but he fought hard not to throw up....he still coughs till he gags, so I guess its all in the family.
