I need some help. My daughter is very smart and me and my husband both feel she can do but she won't and we ask her if she is going to use the potty, she tells us NO. She sometimes will take her diaper off and go sit on the potty but doesn't do anything. My husband says she's ready and I don't think she is. I don't know what to do. I do not want to force her to do something she isn't ready for. My son was soooo easy. He start potty training at 2 1/2 and was completed at 3. He didn't even wet the bed and still doesn't and he's 5 now. I was told girls were easy but this girl isn't.lol. I would appreciate any good advice.
Thank you
S.

So What Happened?

I have received a few responses and you all say pretty much the same things. I do appreciate your advice and I will just give her time and let her decide when she is ready. I have told my husband over and over that she just isn't ready but you know how men can be sometimes.lol. I am mom and I know best.lol. just kidding. Thank you all and have a GREAT DAY. S.

I don't know who ever started the myth that girls were easier, but my daughter was a struggle and finally we managed to get her there a few months after her 3rd birthday. My son was eager at 2 and for a few months would sit there, but now at 28 months he is in the NO stage for everything. I would wait a few months and find a time when you can hunker down together in the house. I am going to try over Christmas vacation. If all else fails, I know he wants to go in the big pool this year, which requires potty training and is a big incentive. Good luck.

As a mother of 2 girls 4 and 7 I have to say that the best advice my doctor ever gave me was, "Relax.".They will do it when they are ready. I know that with my girls, my telling them to do it was a good enough reason for them not to. Once I pulled back and let them tell me when they were ready, we spent a weekend at home with no diaper ready to go at a second's notice. This of course was better received by one than the other but hey, it worked and I was much less stressed wondering if what I was doing was right. Girls are strong willed so learning how to act on their ques and not mine always seems to work best. Hope this helps!

I suggest you read the book "toilet training in less than a day". Author ? I know the title will turn off some people, but the best advice in the book is on how to find out if a child is actually ready for toilet training. I did it years ago with my daughter, who was ready, and it really happened in one day. I am not sure it will work for all, but the advice in the book is excellent. Good luck.

I am a mother of 2 boys and a grandmother of 1 girl and each child is different. But when it came to potty training the advise I got from my mother was not to make a big deal of it. When the child is truly ready, you will know. My granddaughter is extremely bright and I thought she would potty train early. She would hide when it was time to go, so I knew she recognized the urge, but if we put her on the potty nothing happened. Then one day she announced she wanted to use the potty and transitioned from diapers to underpants rapidly. Best of luck to you and your family. Remember that every family goes through this and you are not alone.

Uh, yeah, right! I think your husband WANTS her to be ready! This is a big step in kids' lives (and they're doing it with a brain that's still developing, logic is if-y!). I agree with the others, you really have to relax. I know you want to be rid of diapers (it IS nice!) but you have to let her decide when it happens. We pushed our daughter with the result that she was over four years old when she finally decided she didn't want to deal with diapers. Every kid at their own pace. My older brother was 4, I was 18 months(!?), and my younger brother was 3.

Be glad you had one easy kid anyway!

S.,
Good luck! I also read the book Potty training in a Day. It did work but we waited until our daughter was ready. She had just turned 3. The book does offer lots of good advice etc. I agree with a couple of other advice you got, relax etc.
I also read your profile, it;'s interesting that you mentioned that all men are not perfect and make mistakes etc. is there anything you would like to talk about?

I would say she is not ready. My daughter did it on her own and 2 1/2, and we thought she was ready before that, but she just wasn't. One day she just decided. We bribed her with everything under the sun, but she just wasn't ready at 2. So I would just say to back off and when she is ready she will. My son is 3 1/2 now and we took his pull-ups away about 2 months ago because he was just to happy in them. He had no desire to be potty trained. So it took a couple of weeks, but not letting him have pull-ups at all got to him quickly. Good luck!

My daughter was easier than my son, but it still had to be on her schedule which wasn't until right around her 3rd birthday. Before then she just wasn't quite willing and no offers or rewards for trying were interesting enough for her.
