I have been so amazed with my Dad! He is 53 and is about to get his bachelors in nursing! He did not get to finish college before. He has kept the top grades in all of his classes while working. My Mom and Dad have us 4 kids, older brother is 27 in KY, I am 26 in KS and 15 and 8 year old brothers still living at home:o) So, I would love to hear ideas from you for what I could get him or maybe my brothers and I can go in together for a gift. I am driving down with my kids and my older brother is coming in also with his wife for Dad's graduation.

Thank you!
S.

He has what he need already....four children that love & adore him. You could get together & pill off a nice weekend get away/vacation for him & your Mom. My hat's off to your Dad for sticking it out & finishing inspite of lifes situations & I bet he wouldn't change it for the world...you REALLY should be proud!

If your looking for a material gift, that is very nice, and as mother of 5 year old twins and 20 year old daughter and a 17 year old son who went back to school and who has finished my LPN but going on to get my RN..................I have to say let him know WHAT AN INSPIRATION HE IS??? Let him know how it makes you feel to see him take on such a task and do his very best at it.....while loving and taking care of your smaller siblings.....Take it from a mom who knows it, we want you all to see the importance of an education and the thought that it's never too late to do what YOU WANT TO DO..... Get him a Stethescope engraved with something you and your brother's come up with............What a loving daughter and treasured soul you must be to him..............He LOVES ALL OF HIS CHILDREN SO MUCH..... I know that is why I'm in school.............because I want so much more and then some for my children, plus we have some vacations to take together................;)) J.

Just thought he might need a vacation:) Flights are not very expensive inside the US specially with the help of all the children and you can send him (with or without children) somewhere at the beach...or someplace you know he likes.
I would definetely do something non material to tell him how proud you are, I am sure he will treasure that more than anything!
Have a great time!

S.,
I am a nurse and have been for several years. But a GOOD stethoscope is always a great gift, plus you could have it engraved on the bell..Just a thought...

I'm sure you dad probably already has a stethascope, but what about you and your siblings going together to get him a very nice one? Gosh, it's been so many years, (I'm an BSN) but I think Sprague is the best you can buy.
Or what about paying for his nursing pin?
I bought my own stethascope, but my grandfather paid for my associates degree nursing pin since I was and still am the ONLY one of his 13 grandchildren who had gone to college.

Congrats to your dad for a wonderful gift to himself and his community.

The advice these other mama's have given is great!

I bet he'd also like to have some new family photos while you're all down there for his graduation. Maybe you can find a photographer to come to the house or wherever you'll be celebrating and really document that time of celebration? Sounds like you're all so very proud of the example he's setting for the family - what a blessing!

Enjoy your trip & family time!
