I Have Two Questions:

1. We'll be moving to the North Dallas/Plano/Garland area in July. My husband works on Preston b/t the George Bush & 635, so we hope to be somewhere close to there. I need suggestions for childcare for my 3 year old. Preferrably not in home childcare.

2. What do I do about a picky eater? I'm afraid he's going to turn into a hot dog or chicken nugget bc it's about the only thing he'll eat. Do I just not make a big fuss about it & just let him know that he won't get anything else? Will it eventually pass?

Thanx for the help!!!

What can I do next?

Depending on where you move and how far you are willing to drive for a good school, White Rock North School...about a mile south of 635/Skillman is a great school. Our two year old goes there and he loves it. Everyone is very caring and it has a lot of normal school activities vs. a daycare. The school actually goes through 8th grade. They have an indoor swimming pool, great playground, a horse that the kids get to help feed, and an indoor roller skating rink. They have a great music program and dance lessons offered as well. Hope this helps a bit!

For the picky eater I was afraid of the same thing with my son but then I remembered what my mom did to me. If he doesn't eat what is put in front of him then he doesn't eat. In our house we have a rule that you can't say you don't like it unless you take 2 bites of it. My son tried that with brussel sprouts the first time we gave them to him and I told him the he had to eat one. Well he ate the one then wouldn't eat the rest. Well I'm persistent and I kept giving them to him at dinner and making him try 1. Now my sons favorite vegetable is brussel sprouts. I have not found anything that he will not eat, except spinach and we are still working on that one. If he refuses to eat then tell him there is nothing else until the next meal. He will eventually get the picture and see that you are not going to cave.

My advice for childcare is look at the DHS website http://www.dfps.state.tx.us/Child_Care/Search_Texas_Child...
this will let you search by zipcode for childcare opportunities. I want to know that the owners and operators follow at least state code. Since your child is 3 I would look into preschools, daycares sometimes have structure but for the most part they are organized playtime. Also go and check them out. If they will only see you between certain hours keep looking. Now appointments are okay but if they won't let parents come and go then they probably aren't the same place the rest of the day. I don't know about the area since I am in Grand Prairie, but just look at all your options if you belong to an organization, church or know some people in the area ask for references. But the DHS website is a good place to start. Remember you can always change your mind.

Spring Creek Private School is really close to your husbands job. It is so reasonable, actually the most reasonable childcare facility I found in the entire area. They have a good program including music class, which is so cute. Good luck.
