D..
I'd so much rather have you here with no kids than some of the nasty posters we have WITH kids. Glad you're here...
Hello everyone, I just want to share some really great news. I got accepted for the Fall 2014 UW-Madison School of Pharmacy!!
I am thrilled beyond belief, and so relieved to know that I am not facing another year of undergraduate school before moving forward in my goals. Instead, I have 3 years classroom/1 year rotations to look forward at Madison.
My husband is going to stay in Milwaukee (house, job, etc.) so we will have a bit of a LDR for a few years, but we are both super excited. Now I get to start looking for housing - may need to start a chip-in fund for that. =-)
To all of you who are pursuing a 2nd career, or are non-traditional students working on a first degree, I just want to let you know, dreams come true, and the best part is, they do it with your own hard work. No "wishing on stars" or chasing unicorns. So keep going!
So, for the obligatory question: On this fabulous weekend, what would you like to announce to the community for your good news?
*thrilled* T.
Thanks for all the positive support everyone!
Julie S - I have been a member since this site was known as Mamasource. When I signed up, I was told a tree was being planted for every new member, & thought that was pretty cool. I'm not sure if you are being snarky, or just naturally curious - I'm going to assume the latter, as it is nicer than the alternative. I dont have children of my own, although my husband & I had wanted to adopt children when we got married.
I am currently an aunt to the cutest 2 1/2 year old little girl, with a new niece/nephew on the way in less than 2 months. I have found a lot of the information on this site to be very beneficial to me when relating to my friends & family with children, and find many of the topics to be something I am knowledgeable on. I hope that other members have appreciated my insight & information as much as I have theirs over the years.
Julie S. raised a good point with her updated post. As I stated above, I do not have children to consider when making the decision to go back to school, move, etc. As much as my dogs are "my" children, & I spoil them appropriately, I acknowledge the fact that I have many freedoms that children would not afford me.
However, if I had children, my husband & I would have made the right decisions for our family. I did get into the Concordia school of pharmacy as well, in my hometown, so that would have been an option. My husband & I may have decided to relocate our family closer to Madison with the kids. My children may have been grown by this time. Or I may have never made the decision to go back to school, & instead continued working (I had a good paying job in a great field with a lot of potential, I am going after a dream in pharmacy, not a first career).
I can't say for certain what I would have done, because this is my life, without children, with the options I have in front of me. But even in different circumstances, each of us on this board would make different choices, to prioritize what is important to them with the options they have available.
I'd so much rather have you here with no kids than some of the nasty posters we have WITH kids. Glad you're here...
That is fantastic! Congratulations! My SIL went there too, and my husband went to Madison for med school. They both love Madison.
Housing near campus is pretty pricey, but if you are willing to spend 15-20 min driving, Fitchburg, Verona, and the west side tend to be more affordable. My husband used to live off Odana Rd, and it was a very quick trip for him to school, and is on the bus routes and close to the mall.
Badger Bus has daily trips to Milwaukee and departs from the student union.
How exciting!! Congratulations!!
Nothing really to announce. Got to get four boys ready for baseball and flag football! FUN! FUN! FUN!!
Awesome share.
Mine, my special needs kid learned to multiply this week all the way up to 6s. Woot woot! She is almost 8 and in 2nd grade.
Congratulations ! ! !
My son felt the same way when he was accepted to the USC school of Pharmacy. He graduated and found a wonderful job in a small community and he and his wife love it.
Down-side? They were 10 miles from us. Now they are 800 miles from us.
BTW, get a good economy car with good fuel economy and drive home to see your family at least twice per month.
Good luck in your studies.
Congratulations!!!!!!
Congratulations T.! I love hearing good news!
My good news: My kids are cute and healthy. I'm not doing too shabby either :-)
Good for you. I love Madison.
Awesome!
Congratulations!
Congratulations, T.! I know Madison is very competitive, so this big news speaks highly of your abilities and drive.
Nice! My husband went to the univ. of Colorado health sciences center for pharmacy school. Good career! Congrats!
Congrats! I have a niece finishing her first year in Pharm School at Samford.
It's hard work. Congrats on going forward!
Having worked at UW-Madison a few years, I know how very highly competitive it is to get into this school--esp their medical and pharmacy programs. So CONGRATS on being accepted!
Congrats! Your post might get pulled since it doesn't really have a question, but I'm thrilled that you are thrilled! We can always reinvent ourselves!
Wow, congrats, I did it while actually having human children.
Why are you on this site anyway if you don't have kids?
Well someone pointed out your what happened. Don't you think it is a little ignorant to post this as if you are going to move away from your kids to go to school? There are several moms here that have done the non trad and it is hard, not because we are old but because we miss our kids. The guilt from leaving them, not giving them the time they deserve. You are going to say dogs are the same, that is insulting on so many levels.
