We have been battling with my 6 yr old for 2 years to sleep in his bed. He has a nice comfy bed. But he insists on sleeping on the floor. I dont know what else to do. When he sleeps in the floor he wets himself.

What can I do next?

Dear T., Hello! My 8 year old was the same way. We finally started a star chart with him, Everytime he slept in his bed, He got a star on his chart. At the end of the month he got a little suprise for the great job!!! Maybe that might work...Take Care.

My 9 yr old son is the same way. He has a brand new bed and mattress and refuses to sleep on it. I find him on the floor every morning. He says it is more comfortable. lol So we quit making a big deal out of it and just let him do it. We still put him to bed in his own bed each night and less and less we have been finding him on the floor the next morning. I wondered if it had something to do with the mattress being too new and not "broken in" just yet. But he is doing better now. So I say, just let him continue to sleep on the floor, and keep encouraging him to go to sleep in his bed each night. Good luck.

My four year old never slept on the floor, she just slept with us. So to get her to sleep in her bed we made a chart. After she slept in her bed, by herself, she got a star on this chart, after 5 times in a row in her bed she got sonic, her favorite. Then after 20 times she got a new leapster game or Chuck E Cheese. (she chose the game) Any way, so 20 times was the goal, however there was a milestone reward after every 5 times. IT WORKED!

Mine is only 18 months so we haven't faced this yet, but I wonder if it's *too* soft or maybe it's too high? Maybe if you could put a guard rail up on the side he would feel safer?

I completely agree with letting him do it. He is probably doing it for attention. At six years old, he should be able to tell you why he wants to sleep on the floor. Unless there is actually anything wrong with the bed, he just wants to get your attention and this is his way of doing it. Tonight, don't fight with him about it. When it's his bedtime, just go into his room and put his pillow and blankets on the floor; don't say a word about sleeping in the bed. He will eventually decide on his own that he wants to sleep in the bed. Good luck.

Hi T.! I am right there with you! Ever since we switched my son over from his crib to a bed, he hasn't lasted in it through a single night! I feel like I have a newborn again, because we can't seem to get through a whole night without him waking up the whole house. :( It's been about 9 months now since we switched his bed. I'm up for hearing suggestions too please!
Thanks!

Is he sleeping on his floor or your floor?

Who knows what is going through his mind. And, he might stop if you just let him do it. It may be an attention thing. He has equated sleeping on the floor as something you focus on him about. With 5 kids, this may be the way he gets his individual attention. As long as he's getting sleep and it's sanitary, just let him do it. Believe me, I know it's hard, but he will eventually get into his bed.

Good luck dear!!!!

I would have to agree with letting him go ahead and sleep on the floor. I used to do that too and once my Mom stopped making a big deal out of it, I eventually decided the bed was more comfortable and started sleeping in it. As long as he isn't waking anyone up, I would say it's fine for him to sleep in his room on the floor.

Good luck, you must be a busy lady! :-)

T.:

My 3.5 year old daughter loves to sleep on the floor! We switched to a extra firm mattress and that has helped a ton!! Everyonce in a awhile, we find her on the floor but we've had way more nights in her bed since we switched.

Let him. And don't say another word about it.
