Kinda similar issue: Ever had a TERRIFYING moment with your child and then 1 minute later you find out everything is fine?

I have! I've had a few- but NONE compare to last year with my 2 year old.

She was napping in her crib upstairs. My 3 year old was with me downstairs doing chores. It was time to pick their two older sisters from school, so I went upstairs to wake her up- I was hoping she'd wake up on her own, but it was time to go and she wasn't awake yet- it was a bit dark in the room. I pick her up, hug her still very sleepy self, go over to turn on the light and notice that there's a VERY LARGE amount of blood in her crib. I stop hugging her and look at the front of her- blood all over her face and chest and tummy!!!! I am freaking out majorly inside, but I keep my cool to stay focused and make good decisions. First thing I do is call the school telling them what I discovered and that I will be a little late to pick up my kids. They were very supportive! Well, I clean her up, check her out, and find it was a nose bleed. Phew. It had stopped by then, but that was a traumatizing image! I never expected something so graphic. ...of course I was QUITE relieved.

Any others?

So What Happened?

Reading these posts brings back memories of similar incidents. Stairs, parking lots... I always fear I'll have a heart attack when these things happen! geesh! I always wonder: is it a good "exercise" for my heart to race crazily suddenly when I'm terrified when these things happen to my kids, or am I just killing myself a little more every time? The things we go through. Parenthood is QUITE a job!!!

We were at the walmart parking lot. I was holding my son's hand who was almost 3, all of a sudden I don't feel his hand and he is running into a backing car. the most terrifying thing I have ever felt, I screamed so hard, everything around us stopped, including the car. So he was ok, I almost died of a heart attack, I threw up immediately after that and went home to cry. It was awful.
thankfully it was just a scare.

My daughter was 6 and at a birthday party when she jumped in a moonwalk and for some strange reason bit the netting and RIPPED out the 2 front incisors. She came running up to me screaming with blood (and drool and tears magnifying the amount) screaming and crying, and I hugged her but was freaked out. I even callled 911 but they asked about whether she passed out, and from how high she fell, none of it applied. Someone found the teeth in the moonwalk and we went to the dentist who said that the roots were already starting to get re-sorbed so that he would not put them back in. She was top-tooth-less for over 6 months. Thank goodness this happened with baby-teeth. She never went in a moonwalk again. When I think about it I still shudder, what an awful sight to see your child covered in blood.

how scary! i had the same thing happen with my (then) 4 year old with a nosebleed while he was sleeping in the night. i didn't see a giant puddle of blood, but it was smeared all over his bedding...i kept finding more and more and more. the real trauma was trying to get the blood out of the beloved blankies......:)

i am terrible with blood!

no the only TERRIFYING moment i had with my child, he really did have a badly broken arm :( although we thought it was his head/face at first because THAT was what was covered in dirt and what (we thought) he had hit. took me a moment to realize he was holding his arm like that...and then when i pulled his hand away from it...YIKES. THAT killed me...poor baby :(

When my son was about a week old, I brought him into my bed in the middle of the night to breast feed. I was VERY tired after a week of waking up every 2 hours to breast feed. I was sitting up against some pillows on the bed, but fell asleep while breast feeding my son. I woke up in the morning, immediately realized what happened, and FLIPPED. I looked down and he wasn't in my arms. I saw a little bulge in the blankets next to me and my heart stopped. I thought I had suffocated him. I ripped the blankets back and there he was. I grabbed him a little hard because I was so upset. He woke up, blinked a few times, and then farted. Lol. I was so relieved. I started crying just out of relief.

When our middle daughter was about a year old, she woke up crying in the middle of the night. I went into her room and picked her up and started cuddling her and I thought that it was weird that my shoulder felt all wet. It was dark in the room so I walked over to the window and kind of pushed the blinds up a bit to get a little light in the room. I saw that her face looked like it had black stuff on it so I flipped the light switch on and OMG.....she had blood everywhere! I wasn't calm.....my husband came running in and was trying to figure out what happened. Turns out it was a bloody nose....

My daughter (about 3) and I were upstairs and our dog was too. Well, it was around the time of when my husband comes home and I walk the dog. When we went to go downstairs, our dog was so excited he pushed past my daughter who was at the top of our long stairs that go straight down to the wood floor. She somersaulted (sp?) down the stairs. I screamed so loud. I thought neck injury. It was the most horrible experience. She was fine and had one small bruise the size of fingerprint on her back.

Between my three kids, I've had quite a few scary situations: falling down the stairs head over heels (he only hit twice before he landed at the bottom), swallowing a cold tablet (how he got into a foil wrapped pack at 1 1/2, I'll never figure out), breaking the same arm twice almost exactly two years apart, my daughter rolling off the bed and ending up with a concussion (that was really scary because she was crying and then went limp!). Thankfully, all of these situations ended up okay!

I've had 2 heart stopping moments with my LO (and many minor scares as well - he is the reincarnation of Evil Knevil!). He was about 10 months and he crawled all the way up our stairs (no idea he could do that) and then when he saw me at the bottom (looking for him), he crawled right off the top stair. He literally tumbled head over heels 1/2 way down before I caught him. I sat rocking him and screaming "Oh God!" until my husband told me to stop. I just freaked out. The 2nd was at a birthday party when he was 20 months old. He was playing on a swing set and walked right in front of a much bigger kid on one of those horse type swings - got knocked right in the head by the metal seat and that kid was going FAST and HARD! My husband was out with him and snatched him up but I happened to be looking out the window and saw it happen. Just that moment of realizing he was too close and then realizing he was going to get hit but being too far away to stop it - awful! Ugh, these moments make my stomach churn just thinking about them!

When my daughter was two and we were still potty training, she liked to run around the house naked. She had just stripped out of her jammies and was running bare butt again, we were going to leave in little bit so no biggie, I was going to have to change her anyway. So I turned around to get my shoes out of the closet when I heard a huge crash. My daughter had pulled down a corner stand we have and broke a snow globe...over her head. So this kid is lying buck naked in a puddle of glass, with a wooden stand on top of her. Talk about a freak out moment.

Actually, I handled that one pretty well. I immediately went over, picked her up, and pulled what glass I could out of her hair. I knew the snow globes water was pretty nasty so I put her in the shower and let the water clean the small wound she had and wash out the rest of the glass. Luckily she only had a couple scratches, from the glass and the fact that the glass is what hit her was actually a blessing. The base of that thing was super heavy, and if that had hit her it would have been so much worse.

OMG I have had a few moments like this with my two kids! When my daughter was very young - probably a week or two old, I had her hands wrapped in mittens and it was the middle of the night and her hand came out so I put it back on and realized one finger was sticking out at an odd angle. She never cried but I was convinced I had broken her finger! I didn't but I was still so upset.

Another was when she was about 2 years old and got away from me in our yard and ran straight for the road. Luckily it's a country road but people drive very fast (60+) and I ran after her but was not fast enough. She was about two feet into the road when I grabbed her and snatched her up. 30 seconds later a truck came barreling by. I was sooo upset and spanked her pretty hard that day. I wanted her to remember that moment!

With my son - two weeks ago he ran into the parking lot (he's almost 2.5) when we walked out of the dance studio. he's usually really good about staying near me but he bolted. I got him before he got where the cars were and there were no cars around but STILL.

I swear those moments make your heart stop!
