Hypnosis to Quit Smoking

My husband really wants to quit smoking and wants to try hypnosis. Has anyone tried this and/or who is a good hypnotherapist (sp?) in the Denver metro area. I am afraid to just look up someone in the yellow pages as I think this would be easy to scam someone out a lot of money. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi M.~

I went to try this about 7 years ago. Paid $200.00. Had a smoke that evening... I'm not saying it does'nt work,.. just did'nt for me.

I did learn some interesting things, however. Things that run contrary to the going information about smoking. In my own experience though, all of it made perfect sense.

If your husband really does have full will behind his decision to quit, then this may be a successful avenue for him,... my personal advice though,... be 100% sure of his own motivations, both in picking up the habit, and why he now wants to quit. If quitting is not, first and foremost, of his own desire,... I.E he is only looking to quit due to relatives and/or friends etc, pushing him to,... then, likely, there's no aid out there that is going to really work.
In my own, personal opinion and experience, when I was fully aware of all the why's, and knew that it was, truely, my own will to quit smoking, I did... and needed nothing else to do so.

Good Luck!

I have a neighbor friend who has basically smoked her whole life and she is 60. About a month ago she did the hypnosis thing to quit, and so far she is smoke free. The last time I saw her she was on day 26 of no smoking. She said that she walked into the therapists office just knowing it wasn't going to work, but walked out not wanting a cigarette, and still hasn't. The therapist assigned her a color to look at if she ever gets a craving, hers is red, and it keeps her on track. So far, she swears by hypnotherapy to quit. I know she has tried quitting a few times over the last 10 yrs, but a week into it she always gives up. I do know that my neighbor didn't go to the most expensive place, but if I remember right it cost her over $300, but she says it was well worth it. I'm pretty sure she got the guys name out of the yellow pages.

Tell your husband to have his doctor write him a prescription for Chantix. It is great and it works.

Hi M.,

Both my sister and my mom tried hypnosis multiple times and it did not work for either of them. However, there is a book that helped me, my mom and quite a few co-workers quit. It is called The Easy Way to Quit Smoking. I think the author is Allen Carr. You can find it at Barnes and Nobles. It might be something to consider first before he spends hundreds on hypnosis! I have been smoke free for over 5 years along with my mom who was a smoker for over 25 years.

Good luck to him!

I tried hypnosis & it didn't work for me.

I got a book that was really good, "End Your Addiction Now" by Charles Gant and did the vitamin therapy recommended in it. (The vitamins are kind of expensive, but just for the short-term... and then you're saving a ton on cigarettes.) The book explains the addiction in terms of brain chemistry and helps you decide which supplements you likely need. Here's some info: http://www.enotalone.com/article/3262.html

Still, I didn't end up quitting until I got pregnant (by surprise) but because I'd been doing the vitamins I didn't have any physical cravings or withdrawal symptoms. My toughest thing was the psychological aspect, which was much easier to handle once I had a baby depending on me for clean oxygen. ;)

Best of luck to your husband. Be sure to encourage him w/o nagging & let him know how much you appreciate how hard he's working to quit. It's tough. I hope he can do it!

Never tried hypnosis, but from what I understand not all people can be hypnotised; for those that can it works great. I personally took the Chantix pill and it worked great. My friends and co worker that took it too all were able to quit with out a problem. It is expensive but if you weigh out what he is spending in cigarets a month to the cost it isn't bad at all. Hope my two cents helps!

The one and only person I know who used hypnosis to quit smoking was very successful. That said, I've been hearing tons of positive remarks about a new prescription drug that works for people even when they do not have the willpower (or even the will) to quit. I think it's called chiantrix. It has a website. mytimetoquit.com or something like that.

I used hypnosis to quit smoking. It was the best thing I ever diI used hypnosis to quit smoking. It was the best thing I ever did. In addition to the hypnosis, my Hypnos therapist had me use the patch. I bought all the steps in the patch process and only used the 1st two weeks, which is how well it worked for. Because I smoked in my car, I had my car completely detailed and all of my coats and clothes dry cleaned so that I would not be tempted to smoke by smelling it on myself. All of these things combined helped me quit almost 7 years go. It is the best thing I ever did.

I am sorry but I do not live the Denver area so I can not recommend my therapist. However, if you or your husband have an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) through your work, that is a great place to get a referral. The may even pay for the 1st few sessions. Mine did.

Tell your husband good luck and congratulations on making this life changing decision.
