Hi J.!
First of all, Congratulations on your pregnancy!! I am a two time HypnoBirthing Mama. And, after my first amazing experience, I was so impressed that I knew I had to get certified to teach it so I could share it with as many women as possible! I have now been a HypnoBirthing Practitioner and Childbirth Educator in the Tampa Bay area for 6 six years and have loved every minute of it!
HypnoBirthing is a very calm, gentle and relaxed method of birthing where you don't have to anticipate pain or the need for medications. You learn wonderful breathing, relaxation, guided imagery and visualization techniques, as well as how to trust your body and nature's way of birthing. A lot of people are a little skeptical about the whole "hypnosis" part of what we do, but really it is just deep relaxation with a purpose. You are still aware of what is going on around you, but you are more deeply focused on what is going on with your baby and your body allowing you to assist rather than resist.
The primary difference between HypnoBirthing and other childbirth classes is that other classes will teach you how to "cope" with the pain of labor, where in HypnoBirthing, we don't believe pain has to be an accompaniment to labor, as we address the cause of the pain to begin with. That cause is ultimately fear. If you think about it, anytime you've ever been afraid of something, you probably noticed that you became tense. After a period of time, you may have become aware of the tension in your neck, your shoulders, your back or wherever you tend to hold tension and after a period of time it became painful. If you go into your labor with fear, even at the subconscious level, your birthing muscles will also become tense, tight and constricted and eventually produce pain in your body. This is known as the Fear-Tension-Pain Syndrome. We use self-hypnosis to release those fears and concerns to free you from experiencing this syndrome in your labor. When you are calm and relaxed and trusting, your body works beautifully and as nature intended! It really is absolutely amazing!! I'm so thankful I've been blessed to experience it personally for both of my births, and I continue to feel blessed to share it with so many others!

Happy Birthing Day to YOU!
BIG Hugs,
