Hunter Douglas Blinds - Are They Worth the Cost???

Hi,

I'm looking for feedback on Hunter Douglas blinds. They have the exclusive rights to the "Top Down Bottom Up CORDLESS" blinds. They also about break the bank with their pricing. The TDBUC version of blinds are attractive to us b/c we have a ton of windows (I need 27 blinds for 47 windows) and I have two small children. I don't mind the investment - if they're worth it. It's peace of mind not having all those cords around the house...I know their are safety features on corded blinds but if they're really that nice and are safer I'm ok with it.

I've shopped 3 Day Blinds, Outlook Windows and Eddie Z's. I had some negative comments on Eddie Z's so I was hesitant to shop them, but they have been the most helpful and the other two don't carry Hunter Douglas...Eddie Z's also came in with a lower quote comparing apples to apples...I gave them my 3 Day quote and blacked out prices - they offered better features at a lower bottom line cost...adding the TDBUC will increase my costs but I know apples to apples they were lower in cost...

Sooooooo I'm looking for positive and/or negative feedback on these things before I take the plunge.

Thanks for the input.

So What Happened?

After doing more research, I found out the Eddie Z's gal was not truthful. Hunter Douglas is not the only vendor with the TDBU Corless version. JC Penny's had two other options that were just as nice as the HD brand. In addition, they were 40-60 percent off!!! The gal at Eddie Z's was very nice - I'm going to give her the bennefit of the doubt that she was uneducated and not intentionaly misleading. I saved a BOAT LOAD of money at Penny's and got every feature I wanted and then some for significantly less that my lowest quote from any other vendor. I went to Woodfield Mall and had "Joyce" help me...it was like shopping with your mom...she was more knowledgeable than anyone else I dealt with at any store (Outlook, 3 Day, Eddie Z's or Lowes) and was a delight to work with. She took all the stress out and made my entire experience enjoyable. I literally hugged her when we were done - I'm so glad I trusted my instincts and did more research.

I'm just checking in because I am interested in any answers you may get . . . but I'm really an evangelist about getting rid of any corded blinds after my second son (fearless, and an early walker and climber) came along. I really think he could have been a statistic due to some roman shades if I had spent another couple of minutes in the bathroom one afternoon. I think you are right to be concerned about safety!

It's not what you are looking for, but we did find inexpensive cordless blinds from JC Penney (they just go up from the bottom, though.) If you have an immediate need for a child's bedroom or something, the smaller sizes were under $20/each on sale.

We just finished installing our new wood blinds about 6 hours ago! Ours are not the ones that can open from the top though. We went to eddie z's, and we were really pleased and we were about ready to order, when a friend of ours suggested to look online. Her husband used to sell blinds and said that when it comes to faux wood or wood blinds, THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE in brands. We ordered our from blindchalet.com and paid about 1/4 of the price anywhere else. Yes, you have to install them yourself but it only takes about 15-20 minutes. Ours look awesome!

If you do go with an online company, search the web for discount coupons. good luck!

Hi N.:

We have those same Hunter Douglas blinds and love them. We placed our order through Eddie Zs and were very satisfied with the entire experience, every time. Here is my tip for you. I learned this by accident, but it has turned out great for us. We too have lots of windows and frankly, we couldn't stomach the thought of shelling out so much money at one time. So, we had 5 windows done the first time. When I called for the next round, they cut their pricing deeper since we were return customers. When this happened, the light bulb went off for me! The third order was 6 windows at a slightly lower price than round two. And so on and so on. I recommend you break up your order and reap the benefits of being a repeat customer. We did and we saved big!

We used Eddie Z's when they had the buy one get one free sales. We put faux wood blinds in 10 of our windows with no issues what so ever. I would recommend them.
