Hi M.-
My boyfriend has a constant ringing in his ears...his doc suggested that daily niacin might help...we are in the process of trying it...

Since the start of Feb. I have had this humming in my ears. I went to a dr who looked and said I had blockage. They removed it and things did improve. But the humming has come back the last two days. I was thinking of trying ear candeling. I do not have an infection in them and I do not have any type of head cold or any illness that could be linked. It is really annoying!! Any feedback would be great.

It's tinnitus. I can be caused by a number of things, or can just be a random Occurrence. I get that often since I have a condition call Pseudotumor Cerebri. Sometimes I can hear my heartbeat in my ear.
There are a lot of over the counter drops that claim to help, but I haven't tried any. Hope this help
My brother has had tinitus since contracting meningitis. So be sure not to just isolate this as an ENT problem -- be sure to check with your primary care physician and let him/her know about it. There may not be much wrong with you and there may not be anything to be done about it, but it may be a puzzle piece that you don't want your primary doc to miss because you jumped to a specialist right away.
I work in an Ear, Nose and Throat dr's office. The noise in your ears is called tinnitus. Ear candeling is NOT a good idea! If this is of recent onset you should get evaluated by an ENT if it is ongoing or especially if it is only in one ear. There is no cure for it but it could be an idicator to different problems. Most likely this is just occuring and there is no rhyme or reason to it but it's better to be safe than sorry.
Have you considered visiting an ENT (Ear, Nose & Throat Specialist)?
You'll probably have a hard time with anything on your own as the ear is a deep canal, and there are many different things that may be causing the ringing.
If it persists, I'd recommend seeing a specialist who's specifically trained in the ear to see what they recommend.
My husband tried that once post ear infection... the infection was gone but he still had reduced hearing in one ear, due to remaining swelling and fluid. It doesn't actually do anything. It's a waste of $, time and potentially a fire hazard if you ask me, lol.
Ringing in the ears is called tinnitus, and I don't know if there is any cure or help for it. I hear ringing occasionally... it usually only lasts a few seconds... but I can imagine how much more annoying it would be to be ongoing rather than in short episodes. But seriously, ear candles are a waste. The "stuff" you find at the bottom (that they want you to think comes from your ear) is just melted from the interior of the "candle" itself.
has your dr. mentioned your blood pressure being high? i heard a "useless fact" that always stuck with me, is that the "ringing" you're hearing is actually blood flowing in your veins in the ear canal. ever since, i have noticed, when i have been drinking coffee, am really tense, or even just mad, is often when i hear it. i'm sure your dr. would mention it if your bp was higher than it should be, but just a thought. call me crazy!
I think I know what you are talking about, I had this very thing happen to me about two times in the last six years. Both times I was under a great deal of stress, I dont knwo of that had anything to do with it or not. The doctor said that there is a very small tube in our ears and that he felt it was blocked. He recommended soem drops but I didnt do it I actually think I did the candeling and it worked. Dont worry eventually it'll go away and Id ont think its something serious just extreamly annoying.
