I have heard caffeine can cause ringing in the ears. My hubby gets it every so often, but his comes and goes. He has found that if he cuts out the caffeine, the ringing goes away.
I hope that's all it is for you, too.
Hello Moms,
Wondering if anyone has had any experience with ringing in the ears. Its been almost a year and I have already been to the doctor and had my hearing tested, which was fine. They gave me some nasal spray thinking I may have sinus issues. I was looking to see if anyone may have some recommendations before going back to the dr.

Did your doctor check your blood pressure?
Dear Amy,
I have had it for over 2 yrs. I was at a concert with my daughter and even though I left the venue, the bass was so high it appears my ears were damaged while I was out in the lobby! I will never attend a concert at UIC Pavillion again.
Any way, no damage was done to my eardrum itself but some cilia was. I was total that the ringing might stop eventually but since it has been so long...I know that is not the case. My hearing test results are fine...I just know that in certain circumstances I have trouble hearing over the ringing in my ears. No more silence for me!I now take earplugs with me when I think i may get exposed to loud sounds.Pls update us if you find something out...
Ringing in the ears, tinnitus, can be caused by a lot of different things. I have tinnitus as one of several symptoms of an inner ear disease I have. You can actually be deaf in an ear and still hear the ringing.
Keep trying different doctors. It took me three different doctors before I found one that I like. He's not an ENT but a neuro-otologist (not neurologist). That may not be what you need, but if you aren't having luck with ENT's you might want to talk to one to see if they can help you.
Amy,
Tinnitis can be caused by different factors. Even though the sinus treatment didn't work, does not mean it may not be the cause. Stress also causes this condition, prolonged
loud noise throughout the day, too.
Do you experience this throughout the day?
If it's due to prolonged noise throughout the day, ear plugs at work or home may help. If it's stress look into relaxation techniques. There is a way to see if aggrevated
sinuses may be a reason. Contact an Ecoquest dealer, get
1 week fee evaluation. The air systems cleans up the air and
reduces triggers and pollution that may be flaring up your sinuses. It's free to try and there are special promotions you may benefit from, too.
Here are a few things to try, as I am unsure if it was one thing or a combo that worked for me I will give you all.
Lower salt intake
Lower caffeine intake
drink more water
exercise(aerobic)30 minutes a day x 5 days a week
use a netti pot 3times a week
warm packs to neck right below ears daily before getting up for day
anti-inflammatory(ibuprofen, aleve) 2 times a day for 2 weeks.
Went away after 10 days
My aunt gets ringing in her ears when she eats dairy. It could be an allergic reaction.
I've had tinnitus for 8 years. It started w/ a cold. I went to a general dr. you told me to take a decongestant, as my ears felt clogged. After 3 days I went to an ENT b/c it wasn't better. By then it was too late, I had nerve damage & high frequency hearing loss. Nerve damage in your ear is permanent. I will have tinnitus forever, unless by some miracle it goes away. Do you know if you have nerve damage? If your hearing is okay, maybe you do not have nerve damage. I would seek a 2nd opinion from another ENT. I think you should get your ears tested again. Maybe your ringing is so soft that it doesn't affect your hearing. Please don't mess with your ears, seek another opinion. Since I acted to late, I will have this nuisance forever. Good luck.
Sorry you have to deal with this Amy. My hubbie complained of this for years and finally seems to be getting better. I know it can be very annoying. Ringing in the ears is called Tinnitus and there can be a variety of causes and relief options. Sinuses is one of them. Here is a link to some general reading about the issue. I hope you are feeling better soon. http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/ringing-in-the-ears-ti...
I got tinnitus a 2 weeks after giving birth a 1yr & a half ago. It was terrible. It was worse if i laid down, so i could not sleep. i did some research on the internet & found some remedies because the doctor in emergency was no help. I put a couple of drops of breastmilk in my ear, took ginko biloba, vitamin b1(thiamin) and niacin(b-3)caps. I was cured the next day & no problems since. a good site to look for natural ailments is www.earthclinic.com
My ears started ringing when I was 10 after a nasty ear infection. It stayed on and off until I was about 22(?). I went to different doctors and all they ever told me was turn a radio on. The problem was I wanted silence and having a radio didn't give me that! Finally, I started seeing a chiropractor because I was having headaches and neck pain - totally unrelated. But before he had my neck adjusted to stop the headaches, his treatments had already stopped the ringing in my ears! Before you go to a doctor try a chiropractor if you can. Good luck - it's not fun!
Hi Amy -
I suffer from ringing in the ears (tinnitus), as does my father. My tinnitus started up a couple of years ago when I went to a concert where I was right in front of a speaker for several hours. My dad's was from exposure to loud music over time. Did you over-expose yourself to loud noises?
I have gone to a couple audiologists...one said I had textbook-perfect hearing! But I still heard the ringing sound...I guess I was just hearing well past the ringing. The other said that I could get some sort of a hearing device that would create white noise to block out the ringing.
My tinnitus is better now because I avoid things that trigger it to act up. Hopefully some of these tips help you:
- Avoid loud and high-pitched noises (i.e. cover your ears if an ambulance drives by)
- Don't use headphones
- Use earplugs if you're going to be exposed
I hope yours gets better! Let me know if you have any questions.
Sometimes a hot wet washcloth folded up and held on the ear until cooled (unfolding and refolding to hold the heat) helps me. Sinuses can cause this pressure and/or draining inside the inner ear. Make sure you don't use q-tipped products in the ears.
A few months after I gave birth to my first child, during the middle of the day all of a sudden I could barely hear out of one ear and had the ringing (tinnitus). It was hard being anywhere that was somewhat loud (it made ringing worse) so I know how you feel. I know you don't have the SHL, but I just want to recommend a very good ENT. Dr. Micco at Northwestern Hospital treated me. My hearing is now back to normal. He seems very knowledgeable and is very patient. Maybe there are some things he could check or recommend.
