How to Remove Desitin

My son has carefully spread a very tick layer of Desitin on his brother blanket (and on his brother too). I have tried to wash the blanket every day for a week and the stain is still there.
Any idea how to remove that?
Thanks.
I.

I know this is a late response but my mom just showed me that Dawn dish soap gets out most grease stains, along with a warm/hot wash cycle. It may already be a perminate stain from the other washes, but you could try this.

aaaahhhh, my dear I.!!! what a nice laughable memory you have given me!! as I sit here holding our youngest child who is 8 weeks old, I laugh when I think back to my oldest child dd25 when she was about 2 and she was playing "mommy" with her doll. She had just watched me put desitin on her younger sister about 1 at the time. I had left the desitin on the bed, while I put her sisiter to sleep in her crib. Honestly I think I was gone for 2 minutes. She had her doll covered head to toe with the desitin. Now being a young mom of 22/23 I didn't appreciate the newest mess. Today when we pull out that babydoll it still has traces of desitin in the corner of it's mouth and I smile. It was the brgining of a love/hate relationship with desitin. So no, I have no advice how to get it out of the blanket, being grease base, not sure if you can; but a great big thank you at the sweet memory and remembering how fast time goes and another reminder of how fast little ones move. Many blessings and happy memories, hugs~~K.

My son, actually, just did the same thing last week. He got it all over the couch. What I used to get it off (and it seemed to work pretty well because there is no trace it was there) was warm to hot water and some liquid dish soap (the kind you hand wash with not the kind that goes into the dishwaher) called Crystal. It's in a yellow bottle. I hand washed it with this soap. Once you did that, you could probably put it in the wash with any normal load.
Hope this helps at all.

Welcome to the club! My son has managed to empty three Desitin tubes in 3 years. Hot water wash with a degreaser should do the trick.

Hi I.,
You might try a degreaser like Holy Cow from Raleys. I have found that a degreaser is the only thing that removes Desitin though it may not work after going through the dryer.
Sincerely,
L.

I've never tried it on fabrics, but this works on the bum:
To remove the thick layer of creams use Mineral Oil. It works like a charm! Good luck!

Tyr Zout. I haven't found a stain yet (including telephone pole grease) that this stuff won't remove. I've seen it remove "set" stains as well, though not sure about desitin.

Pretreat with Shout or Spray N Wash. (But if you've dried it a few times, it may make it harder to remove.)

You could try scrubbing it with Dawn liquid detergent or Goo gone, but because you've washed it already it may not work..You have to find am identical replacement!

Good luck!

I hope you haven't put the blanket through the dryer & heatset the stain yet.

You need a de-greaser. Dish detergent, or stain removers that work on grease, whatever you got, will work. It may take more than one washing. Also, use hot water with de-greasing detergent.

(For blood, the trick is to soaking/washing it in cold, not hot water, till stain is gone. One of the easier stains I deal with in my husband's clothes (he's a veterinarian) It's the paint sticks and mystery black stains I hate!)

I absolutely love OxiClean!! Not sure if it will work on the greasiness, but it's worth a shot.

Use one scoop of the powder and then fill a tub (I use the pink one from the hospital!) with super hot water and stir to dissolve the granules. You can soak it for as long as a few days, even if it's been washed and dried.
It always gets my daughter's stains out, but like I said I'm not sure about grease stains. If it doesn't get all of it out the first time, wash it in the washer and then soak it again.

Good luck!

Scrub it with original dawn and then wash. That should take it off. Good luck!

Dear I.,
All I can say is that if you get a greasy stain, the worst thing you can do is put it in the dryer before you have it out. It will either set or spread.
This may sound strange, and I can't remember what it's called, but you can get it at auto supply stores.
It's this stuff that mechanics use to clean their hands even if they have no water around. It gets all the grease off and they can just wipe their hands with a rag or towel.
It works really well and I've used it on laundry. Test before using on fine fabrics, but it's like the grease breaks down and disappears. It comes in a pretty big tub and you only need a little for laundry here and there.
Try Napa or Kragen. They will know just what you are talking about.
