What will remove chocolate stains??? My little girl loves chocolate ice cream.... I use just a regular detergent that is allergen free but it does not remove chocolate ice cream stains. I have so many ruined dresses from chocolate stains :( If anyone knows of a solution..let me know please. I see ads on tv for Oxyclean...anyone use this?

Summary

To remove chocolate stains, some moms found that the free and clear Oxyclean works great. Just add a scoop to the wash and let the load soak in it for a couple of hours before running it the rest of the way through. The big thing about chocolate, just like blood, is that warm water sets it, so rinse it in COLD water in the sink first, until the chocolate is mostly gone - then use spray and wash or any of the other spot cleaners mentioned, and wash as normal in cold water.

Have you tried the Tide pens? They smell terrible, but work amazingly! I have them everywhere! In my car, my desk, my daughter's cheer bag...

I think treating the stain asap is the key! Use cold water to wash as much of the chocolate off as possible, then treat with spray n wash. It says not to spray on until ready to wash, but if you wet the stain well and wash by the next day, I've never had a problem. I've used oxyclean, too and it works well.

I use Shout Advanced and liquid Oxiclean with great results. My son also LOVES chocolate ice cream - Marble Slab to be exact - so we have had LOTS of experience with chocolate stains! Good luck!

Oxy-Clean or Spray and Wash work for me. I have two little boys who seem to get more food on their clothes than in their mouths. I have used the oxy clean on old stains and it works really well!

I have always gotten blood out with Zest. Just take the bar and water and rub it on real good. Then let sit for about an hour then wash as normal. It has taken blood out of white satin. I am sure it will work for chocolate. When you wash it besure it is out completely before you dry it. The heat from the drying sets in the stain and it is almost impossible to get out after that.

Have you ever tried the Melaleuca products! They are amazing. I don't distribute the products, but I can teach you how to shop. They are a health and wellness company. All of their products are natural. AND THEY WORK! They are also very affordable. They are having very good offers this month. Let me know. They have products that get red nail polish off of a white leather couch!

spray it as soon as possible with Oxi-Clean. I've let things soak overnight then washed them in cold water (I wash everything in cold water). A friend of mine gave me some clothes for my daughter that she was just going to toss due to chocolate ice cream stains and I was able to get most of the stains out with my Oxi-Clean spray. There is also a powder version that you can make a paste with to scrub in - my sister-in-law swears by that for the stains her two boys get into.

I'm a mom to 4 (w/ 2 extras for the summer - my neices) and we have ice cream & movie night everyweek - lots of chocolate ice cream accidents!

All I do is rinse the garment in cold water, usually that's enough to get the ice cream out. If it doesn't, then I let it soak all night in cold water and it always comes out. I never use a pretreater or anything else.

ERA detergent has always worked for me; you may need to soak it overnight - get the spot wet, then rub in some ERA, then soak it overnight before cleaning. Wash in cold water.

Hi J.,

Spray and wash, simple green, or just about anything should get chocolate out. You can always take the clothes to a dry cleaner.

Hope this helps,

I think I use ERA for chocolate, grass, etc. stains and it seems to work. Good luck! That's such a pain!

Oh, and always try to get to it ASAP. The longer it sits, the harder it is to get out!

I've also soaked clothes in biz...it's a non cholorine bleach that is safe for colors.

No matter what laundry aid you use I think the main important thing is to soak the item and don't try to rush it. Don't just treat the stain then immediately throw it in the wash. I would suggest soaking for at least 6 hours, maybe overnight. Good Luck!

Oxiclean or Simple Green. Simple Green has been around forever and you can use it on EVERYTHING in your house. We buy the size you get at Sam's or Costco and dilute it in a spray bottle. I have had the same bottle forever. I got the tip from a pro. housekeeper.

I use Dreft on everything. I don't buy the Dreft Spray stain remover, I just use the liquid Dreft that I use to wash all my baby clothes and pour a little on stain and scrub, scrub, scrub, then put in a regular wash cycle, and clothes for me have always come out in great condition!

There is a laundry product called fels naptha. It is a product you will have to keep away from children. It comes in a bar, and that one bar will last several years. You can buy it off amazon.com.

I HAVE PURCHASED STAINED GARAGE SALE CLOTHES & SOAK THEM IN BIZ & THEY ARE GOOD AS NEW. SOMETIMES IF IT DOESN'T COME OUT IT THE WASH i MAKE A PASTE & LET IT SET IN A LITTLE WATER FOR A FEW DAYS (DEPENDS ON HOW STUBBORN THE STAIN IS)
GOOD LUCK

I have found the laundry detergent WHISK to be the best stain remover. In fact, I think it is better than most "stain removers" I have ever used. I usually spread the Whisk on the stain straight from the bottle, let it set 10 or so minutes, then put it in the washing machine and before it starts agitating I rub the stain spot by hand, drop it in the machine and when the wash is finished the stain is usually gone. Sometimes it may take two times before all of it comes out. It is best to do this before it is ever put in the dryer. But even then it is good about removing some stains. Good luck. R.

My younger daughter is a choco-holic and her favorite drink is chocolate milk! (Which is to say that we've tried most everything to get out chocolate/dairy combo stains!)

The most important thing to remember is that heat sets stains, so make sure the stain is COMPLETELY gone before the clothing goes in the dryer...you can always try a different stain remover and wash again, but once the heat sets the stain, it will mysteriously reappear...(I'm not recommending you throw away clothes you may have already dried...you can often get the stain "out"...just be prepared to see it again in the future!)

My favorite stain remover for chocolate milk stains is DREFT Stain Remover spray! Other great stain-removing products are Fels Naptha bar (like a bar of soap, but in the laundry section...specifically made for stain removal), Zout stain removal gel (recommended by the "Queen of Clean") and OxiClean powder.

Best of luck to you!!

Try hydrogen peroxide. It will take any protein based stain out. I just pour it directly on the stain and put the item into the wash within about 5 minutes. When I tell people this they always ask "Won't it take the color out?" And my response is always "It never has for me. I guess because it is such a low concentration 2%-10%. And anyway, the item is stained already so I can't wear it." I have never tried it on furniture or carpet, just clothes of all types.

Oh yes!! We have had chocolate ice cream on many outfits. We use the free and clear detergent as well. I've found that the free and clear oxyclean works great. I add a scoop to the wash and let the load soak in it for a couple of hours before running it the rest of the way through. It's worked great. On those supper tough stains that don't get out through the first wash I soak them with a more concentrated dose of oxyclean in a bucket and then rewash them. Good luck.

I realize you're probably trying to stick to allergen free but Shout Advance works spectacularly on old stains-the kind that are greasy and have been washed and dried. Oxy clean also works well if you let the garment soak in a bucket for a couple hours. Just make sure you run an extra rinse cycle with either product when you launder it.
