Right, they are just like other kids, which means no hitting. I assume you are another country based on your language and question about "punishing here". But really, children are all the same and should be treated with respect and dignity. It has been proven time and time again that spanking or smacking DOES NOT teach a child right from wrong. Get a book like Dr. Sears' "The Discipline Book" and learn how to lovingly correct your child's behavior. I know people always say "I got spanked and I turned out fine" but 50 years of research says otherwise. It's hard to find a child psychologist or behaviorist who would agree that hitting a child teaches anything more than "if you don't do what I want I will hurt you".
Time out is good. Taking things away, both objects and privileges helps. If he hits his brother with a toy, take away that toy. If he doesn't do what you tell him to, no TV for the rest of the day.

A friend of mine has 6 children, three were adopted with special needs. When one child mis-behaves they don't do the standard time out in a spot for 1 minute per year old (ie 8 years old = 8 minutes). The mis-behaving child is not allowed to play with the other children or even in the room. They have a toy room and when is mis-behaving he/she is not allowed to play in the toy room for a certain amount of time. This is also in effect when a child has a friend over, the friend gets to continue playing with everyone else and the mis-behaving child has to go off to his/her room or the living room. The seperation and lack of attention might help. Best of luck

Kids with Cp are just like any other child, punish her the same as you would if she didn't have it.

Living With CP
Cerebral palsy usually doesn't stop kids from going to school, making friends, or doing things they enjoy. But they may have to do these things a little differently or they may need some help. With computers to help them communicate and wheelchairs to help them get around, kids with CP often can do a lot of stuff that kids without CP can do.

Kids with cerebral palsy are just like other kids, but with some greater challenges that make it harder to do everyday things. More than anything else, they want to fit in and be liked. Be patient if you know someone or meet someone with CP. If you can't understand what a person with CP is saying or if it takes a person with CP longer to do things, give him or her extra time to speak or move. Being understanding is what being a good friend is all about, and a kid with CP will really appreciate it.

I too have a child with cp, however, he is quite severe. I guess it depends on how severe your childs cp is. I don't think you should take advice from us moms on how to punish a child with cp. Talk to your childs pediatrician, maybe they can help.
