How to Get a Stain Out?

Hi Moms,
I really could use some help. I just recently bought this new pair of black/gray jeans for work purposes, and the first time I wore them I started my cycle. I didn't realize it was that time already, and unfortunately I have a nice red stain in the crotch. I know I am not alone in this. I'm sure there are many women out there who have had this happen before. I tried using the oxy clean stuff that you spray on and then wash, but it didn't get the stain out. I don't know if I have now set this crazy and embarrasing stain into my pants. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get this stain out without taking out all the color in the jeans. Help!!

So What Happened?

Thanks to all of you for some wonderful advise. I will remember some of these for when I get another one. LOL. You know there will be one. I did not dry the jeans, as I am very tall and have issues with my jeans shrinking, so the hot part wasn't a problem. I have tried the oxyclean and it got a good majority out so that it is now not as noticable. I will try the others on the next time. Thanks again, Moms. I really appreciate the advise. I never thought of peroxide, so I will definitely have to try that or the Pinesol next time.

Go to HEB and at the end of the laundry aisle they have the stain removers. Get the Carbona bottle - they treat different stains so look for the one for blood. They are a slanted rectangle shaped bottle brightly colored. It takes out what it says it will.

good luck

Hi D....
What I have used before is hydrogen peroxide... Try a little by applying directly on the stained area... then procede with washing with the oxy clean spray.. amazingly it works!!! I have even gotten stains out of jeans!

You have to let them soak overnight or until the stain is gone. Oxiclean powder works a lot better. Another option is to spread the powder on the stain and keep it moist. That will do!

Hi D., Every stain and fabric are different. The key is to SOAK the stain for as long as it takes. If you have already dried your pants in the dryer, you have applied heat to the stain and set it, so it will take more efforts. I use now something called Grandma's Stain Remover only sold in sewing sores. Otherwise I use simple shampoo, or Woolite liquid, if OxyClean does not work. You have to soak it and just wash it a lot of times if you have already set the stain, just don't put your pants in the dryer until you get the stain out. Good luck ! Grandma K.

Two things have worked for me in the past, hydrogine proxide, and oxi-clean. The proxide will bubble up put a old towel under it and rub then rinse wash in cold water.
The oxi-clean works the best, put in warm water and soak for several hours along with any other things that have stains in them. Then wash in the same water with the detergent.

The best way to get a blood stain out is to spit on it. I know it sounds ridiculous, but it works! Something about the enzymes in your spit breaking down the proteins in the blood... I don't know. I found this out when I was getting fitted for my wedding gown. I accidentally got pricked and bled on my white satin shoes! My designer told me to spit on them and the blood just magically went away! I've used it for surprise monthly stains myself, as well as the boo-boo stains of my son. Not sure if it will work after oxyclean and washing but it's worth a try. Good luck!

Peroxide. My mother works in a surgery center and that is what the nurses use to get blood out of their scrubs. I use it on everything now, it is cheap. I spilled grape juice on a brand new pair of khaki shorts and it all came out. My shorts were covered in it, and, every ounce came out! It does nothing to any of the fabrics I have used it on. I have used it on brights, whites, and darks and it never messes with the colors of the fabrics. I keep a huge bottle in my washroom at all times!

*Edited to add*
I've never had to use elbow grease using peroxide. And, at less than a dollar a bottle, I save a lot of money!

Since you have already washed and I assume ried them, yu might be stuck . . but normally, the best way Iknow to get rid of any type of blood on any type of washable fabric is cold water and some elbow grease.

just wet the area (remember COLD ONLY) ad rinse out what yo can, then rub the area either together or with a med/soft brush, add a little liquid soap (I just use the hand stuff in the bathroom) and keep "scrubbing" and rinsing until the stain is gone. If you can't seem to get it all at once try or you are not sure you got it all, then let the item line dry (again remember no heat) and try again later.
Good luck!

D.,
You are right.. you are not the only one. But the trick is peroxide... I know it sounds wierd, but when My sister went into labor at home and bleed thru some of her WHITE maternity clothes I mentioned it to the nurse, and she told me to fill the bathtub up with some water, about a couple of inches.. pour about a bottle or whatever in the tub (i think i just kind of made my own judgement) then let it soak, stirring it around a little.. and seriously.. no effort.. viola.. stain was gone out of WHITE/ and pink clothes.. YEA.. try it .. it really works. we had to do the same thing when my husband got hurt at work.. bleed on some clothes.. and VIOLA.. like magic. God Bless.

I promise the spray OxyClean will get it out. I have gotten wine, blood, poop, puke, spaghetti out with Oxy Clean spray.

Spray your garment in that area generously and rub it in with your fingers or rub the fabric together until it goes away. Then you can wash it. You may need to spray a little more. It takes some work but it will get it out.

I use Lestoil - it works for just about everything - you can purchase it at most Wal-Marts. I will tell you not to apply it to the clothes for more than 30 minutes before you are going to wash - don't just put it on and then throw them in the dirty clothes hamper and not wash them for days - it will stain too....go figure :)

For future reference, any blood stain should first be treated with Cold Water to try to wash it out, hopefully before it has dried. If you have washed and dried the jeans with the stain at this point, I'm afraid you're only option is to dye them a darker color, wear extra long shirts on the outside, or they should make a good "lounge around the house" pair ...

At HEB they have small yellow bottles (not sure of brand name) on the detergent isle. They have one for blood and it works well. Follow direction and let it sit on stain before washing. It should remove the stain. I would not use hot water because that can set a stain.

Trust me your not alone on this one!

Try using Oxy Clean (the powder) in your wash and spray the stain with Dreft Stain Remover.

I use Oxy Clean in every load and spray the Dreft on all stains, baby related or not. It gets everything out!

I'm not sure where you shop but at Wal-Mart you can find the Dreft Satin Remover in the baby section. It's in a white bottle with a pink label. Just like the Dreft Laundry Soap.

Good Luck!

Hi D.,

My mom jus showed me how she keeps all her clothes so clean. She removed lots of stains from my clothes by ding this. She puts pine-sol on the stain. It smells very srong but it works. Put your jeans in a bucket with water and add lots of pine-sol. Let it sit there fror a while then rub them a little. You should see the stain coming out.

I now add a cup of pine-sol to my washer and my clothes are so clean. especially my whites. My mom has always received compliments on her whites and now I am proud to say mine look like hers. Try it!!!

Pine-sol can be found at walmart for under $2. Or Sams for like $8 a hugebottle.

Hope it helps!!!

as long as you have not dried them, use Zout. It comes in a red bottle and can be found anywhere. The stuff is awesome. My daughter gets nose bleeds and it always gets every bit outon my clothes and hers. Just saturate the area and rub it in gently. I usually put it in sink of cold water but you don't have to. Good luck.

You need a stain remover that will take out protein. Shout or spray-n-wash.

Shampoo always wked for me, put it on the stain & rub together til it's gone as much as it's going to be gone. Sometimes a little bit will remain but I usually can get 99% of it out if not all of it. The opaque ('cloudy') type works best I think b/c it's thicker. The 'see thru' kind or transparent type that you can see through doesn't seem to wk as well. It's best you tackle the stain when it's fresh that day & not put in washer or laundry for later just yet before doing this 'pre treat' as I call it othewise it usually ends up permanent. You can always try the Shout stain brush. It's a gel that you squirt onto the fabric & rub in w/the bristle brush attached to the top. That way you can rub in the pretreat real good before washing. The spray or squirt type may not work as good b/c it just soaks in rather than 'dig' into the stain. But honestly, I've had so much better luck w/shampoo than the Shout or spray 'n wash that I just use that first then use the pretreater before going into the wash on top of using the shampoo. I used to have leakage issues w/my feminine products at work & could never make it to the bathroom in time to change it so I understand your delimma! Good luck!!

I have used "ERA" for stain removing for about 20 years now. I've tried the other so called stain remover products and they have never worked for me. When my children were babies ERA even got out a carrot (baby food) stain that I had already ran through the dryer! I've been sold on it ever since. I also use it on my daughter's clothes when she starts her cycle. I pour some ERA right on the stain, rub it in good, put in the washer and run it on cold water. If it doesn't come out the first time just repeat the procedure. You can also add some color safe bleach to your wash. I will say too that although I have never used the peroxide method, I have heard that it works as well. Just make sure it won't ruin the fabric.
