My daughter will be 5 in June. My husband and I are starting to think of extracurricular activites she can be in. We are going to start either dance or gymnastics but also thought about Girl Scouts. How do you go about getting your daughter into a "troop" or whatever they call them LOL.... I was never in that growing up. However my brothers were in cub scouts and I went to all the meetings as my mom was a "leader". So I can kind of see what all they do and so forth. Where should I start looking and what the costs that go with it? Thanks so much! Anyone know of one in Richardson or surrounding areas further North?

they have a great program called daisy by mail. For girls who are not in a troop yet. You get stuff sent to your home and you completely the projects and crafts on your own,etc. Then they get a certificate at the end of the program this helps them get their daisy petals. The number to sign up for this is 1-800-621-7042. Then you can sign her up at school in the fall for a daisy troop!
My daughter and I did the program over the summer and by the time school started and she joined a troop she already knew the girl scout promise. girl scout law, etc. so she was on her way to getting all her petals. This may she will bridge into brownies since she will be in 2nd grade.

Check with your home elementary school that your daughter will be attending for Kindergarten. The office can probably give you the contact info. for the troop leaders. They often have membership drives and new troops starting at the beginning of the school year.
Girl Scouts are organized into age groups. Daisy and Brownies are the youngest groups by age.
You can try going to www.GSSJC.org for some information or at least contact info. That is my daughters troop area and we are in spring. I am not sure if the "branch" (?) changes. If anything, there will be someone you can call from that site. Good choice for your L. one and good luck. also...agree with Colleen, check with the elementary school.
My daughter just started kindergarten this year. Not too long after school started, she brought a note home in her folder for Daisy Troop sign-ups. =0) The meetings are held at the elementary school. I would start there (with your child's school). The first year (kindergarten year) will be the Daisy Troop. Our troop dues were $84.00. It's very cute. My daughter really enjoys it.
Great Idea! I have been in for 20 years. I am only 25.....But I am a lifetime member, and proud of it! The number to the GS office in Fort Worth is ..###-###-####. You can ask the receptionist from there. Hope your daughter has as great as an experience as I have.
I have 2 girls and they are both in their girl scouts and I am the assistant leader and it is a lot of fun! I am in Fort Worth but use the website that Denise P gave you and it should work.
At 4 kids can usually play soccer, T-Ball, and other community based activities. When they start Kindergarten their school may have organized teams that are by age groups too. We do gymnastics, dance, tumbling, and all the above sports. The kids stay busy and healthy. I also work 3 part time jobs so I know how nuts it can get but it is worth every minute of it to see them succeed in something so important for their future lifestyles.

My girls love GS. Let me tell you though it is a different beast than CubScouts.
I think dues are $10 still. I dont' know bcause I always pay GS dues, Cubbies dues and actual troop and den dues all at the same time.
I would contact the school they should have the information about leaders in the area. Churches too might know. .
She can start in kindergarten as a Daisy. She does two years K-1 as a Daisy then goes to Brownies, 2nd and 3rd grade. Juniors 4th adn 5th and then Cadettes, mine is a Cadette right now.
Meetings usually start in OCt. sometimes they will start earlier if the troop has a registered leader.
Do not think that you can't be a leader. If I can do it anyone can and Daisies are so fun and easy.
