How Often Does Your 9 Month Old Eat? I Feel like All I Do Is Feed My Son.

I just want to make sure I am feeding him right. He has 5 6 ounce bottles a day. 7:30 bottle, 8:30 cereal and a 1/2 jar of fruit. 11:30 bottle 12:30 1 jar of veggie or meat mixture... then a mid afternoon snack of cut up fruit or veggies. ( I am starting to introduce more table food now that he has a few teeth) 5:30 dinner 1 jar of veggies/meat and 1/2 jar of fruit. And then sometimes he had puffs in between.... Last bottle before bed is 7:30. My son is 9 1/2 months and weighs 23lbs. I told the MD that he seemed to be a bit hungry during the day so she said to start giving him snacks. He is a great eater. He has been chubby since he was about 4 months old. I breastfed him until 7 months and he started solids at 6 months. Am I right on track or should I be doing things differently?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks Ladies! I guess we are on track then. My pediatrician didn't sound concerned about his weight at his 9 month appointment so I will just keep feeding him like I do. We tried pees for the 1st time and he loved them. It is so exciting to watch them eat things on their own!!!

Could it be growth spurt time? I've heard babies hit growth spurts AROUND

3 weeks,
6 weeks,
3 months,
6 months,
9 months,
12 months

It's been true for both of my girls.

Yes, it is amazing how much they eat. If you actually calculate the number of calories/day it is truly amazing. When DS was that age, I calculated the number of formula calories he was eating and it was over 1500/day. More than I eat. The pediatrician didn't seem remotely concerned.

Sounds good to me! lol. My DD ate like that and was a CHUNK until she turned 9 months, and learned to walk. Now I worry that I'm not feeding her enough! (she is 1 year now, and has leaned up since she is so active, but her pediatrician assures me she's normal...)

My DD is about the same age (few weeks younger) and about the same size. She's a giant!

Our ped wanted her to have less formula, so I boosted her food and cut her bottles. Now she gets 4 6oz bottles/day. Same basic pattern as yours.

She eats 2 jars of food most of the time for meals, and I'm also giving her more table food, so sometimes she eats that instead of a jar (found out last night that she LOVES broccoli...).

But overall, sounds about right to me. If you consider that snacks aren't really filling - they're more just picking - they're ready to really eat at meal time!

Hi there S.,
I wonder the same with my soon to be one year old. She is not taking to table food as well as I had hoped and I wonder what I am facing when we eventually phase out formula. Surprisingly, she did fine with the transition from breast milk to formula so maybe I am worrying for nothing. I don't know if others have had experience with this, but I went to gerber's website and printed out their menu based on where our daughter was at the time (supported sitter, crawler, etc) and it really gave us some "guidelines" which was very helpful. Now we don't follow the menu exactly because we let our baby tell us when she is hungry and the menu seems a bit heavy on the feeding schedule. Our doc said her "weight is beautiful" so I don't fear I am starving her (that was at 9 months and 18.5 pounds) so it sounds like you are on track. Kudos with the table food! I need to be more consistent but it is hard being a working mom...yuk! :o)
