When I was considering it, I was thinking $100-$125 per week and that's a GREAT deal compared to childcare centers. The going rate is usually anywhere between $150-$195 per week.
i am looking to watch a 5 week old little girl in my home full time during the week and was wondering what the going rate is? i dont want to rip anyone off but i want to earn money at the same time...so i was thinking maybe $100 a week was reasonable???? please let me know what you moms think.....also does anyone know where i can get a pack in play and a swing and a bouncy seat pretty cheap for this little one to use while she is here? TIA!!

I am a stay at home mom to. I watch a 10 month old little boy . I charge 125wk right now but most people charge 140-150wk.You also have to work out some rules. Like pick up time stick 2 this are people take avanage. Also holidays you get paid and If the child is out sick for 1-2 days you still get paid. Good luck!
I would not charge less than $150 per week. Also you need to set some guidelines for your families, like when you get paid and how your are to get paid when their child is out sick or you need off b/c you are sick or personal day. I also recommend that you set up guidelines to outline what determines when the child cannot come due to illness such as fever, vomiting, bowel trouble and other illnesses. You can look up the cdc guidelines or use the ones that your kids school uses. I have been in the in-home childcare business for over 8 years and it is better to have all this prepared before you get stuck in a situation. Also take into consideration what to do on holidays and vacation for your family and theirs. If you have any questions please feel free to call me t ###-###-####. Oh and if I were you (speaking from experience) I would have them send their own bedding. It is not unreasonable for you to have them bring her own pack and play and maybe a few small toys that stay in her pack. The swing and other items you can get at resale shops or online sites.Do not short change yourself on the price. You are the main caregiver for that child if you are watching her full time. Try to set up your guidelines to resemble the way that a daycare center runs. It will protect you and the families that you work with. There will be clear communication and clear guidelines as to what happens and why it happens if you do this. I know that it sounds harsh to set guidelines but if you don't it will come back to cause problems later, trust me. I hope this helps.
It's been a few years but I watched a 6 week old 2 days a week from 6:30-5pm. They paid me $100 for the two days.
For the items you need...check garage sales, craigslist or even Once Upon A Child.
I think you're crazy to only charge $100/week!! I do in-home and I charge $125/week for 12 months and up. A newborn is going to be insanely hard to care for and a daycare is going to charge them at least $200/week. I would go more with $130-$150/week until the child is easier to take care of.
Sorry, just my opinion. I don't watch newborn b/c I have my own 10 month old, so I only take toddlers. I know how insanely busy I would be taking on one that young. It's a very hard job and you have to consider what your time is worth to you.
Most day cares charge 175-195 a week for infants. My daughter goes to an individual and I pay $120 a week and she is almost 4. When she was little I paid my SISTER $150 a week.
I think 125 (25 a day) at least. Don't short change yourself.
try www.dallas.craigslist.org you can always find a good deal on kids stuff under the kids section! try a goodwill store too. even garage sales!
