It can vary greatly depending on what fits in your budget and what you are looking for. For me, I wanted a great school and also one that allowed me time to get some errands done by myself. Park districts were generally the most cost effective, but some of them were only 2 days a week for 1 1/2 hours at a time. That didn't give me any time to get to the grocery store and get the groceries put away without being late for a pick up. So we found one that we love that starts with a 2 year old room (doesn't have to be potty trained) and this school costs $175/month for 3 days per week 9-12. My middle girl goes there now and my oldest went there for 3 years. I also had sent my oldest to a montessori preschool while going to the other preschool for 2 full days (I felt she needed more school time for various reasons). That cost $500/month. 5 half days at the montessori school costs $600/month. I think she got a lot out of it, but it was pretty pricey. To make a long story short, I don't think it's too early to look and I would suggest talking to other moms in your immediate neighborhood with preschool age children and at your local parks when you see them(that's where we heard about the great school that takes them at 2!!) to find out where they go and what the cost is and what they like/dislike about the schools. Since you use mamasource, you already know that other moms are the best source of good advice! Good luck!
