How Many of Us Are in School?

I work-full time, have 3 kids who are all in activities, a husband who works 2 hours away (which puts all of the kids activities on me), and I go full-time to school online. But in 10 months I will have my M.B.A. So it is a driving force for me to just suck up this last year and keep going. I'll be 29 when I get my degree and my goal was 30. How many other mom's out there are going to school also? Do you go online or in the class? What are you going for? Why are you going?

I go because I want to be self-sufficient and provide for my family. I also see that my field (finance) is competitive where I live. Having my undergrad already puts me ahead of so many people here and allows me more opportunities, but I already know the MBA will help more. My degree will be a Global MBA, which basically is a focus on international business. I go full-time online as well.

What can I do next?

I was enrolling, then had a schedule change last minute so that puts me off another semester. I have 3 classes left until I get my associates. But, with my huaband's $40,000 student loan, I don't see how it's even remotely possible for me to go back to finish my 4 year, even though it is a dream of mine.

I'm going to school full time right now, 2 classes on campus and 1 online this quarter. I start the nursing program in January and will be doing all classes on campus + clinicals at hospitals/medical facilities. I don't work outside the home but stay busy with my one bio son and our foster kid(s). We currently have 3 FKs but can have up to 4. My husband works hard to support us while I finish school. It has always been a dream of mine to be a nurse, I finally decided to stop dreaming and starting doing so I quit my job. I know that all this work will be worth it in the end because I will be able to help support my family and provide for them in ways we never could have otherwise.

Check.

In person mostly.

Anthropology/Archaeology (BS)... to MS... to PhD
Fine Art (BA)
Nursing (BS)

I'm going because I want to be an archaeologist/professor. I've spent half my life travelling and absolutely refuse to do so without a suture kit and bag'o'scripts (not only for mending yourself and others when you're 300 miles to the nearest available doctor, but also because I'd like to pad the excavation season working for an NGO, and because medicine is currency in 3rd world countries), so my BSRN is to do double duty as archaeologist and staff nurse on site, as well as to be able to work offsite. The art is both useful for my field & hireablility, and because I'm good at it.

Nope..I got my degree before kids came along and now I am home full time...which was always the plan. I taught kindergarten before kids were born. I am loving what I do now and not having the stress and pressure of school or work. I get to put my full attention into family, home, husband and hobbies. Maybe someday I will go back to work when kids are grown and gone...but we have a whole lot of living before that time comes.

Wow..you have a lot on your plate. Keep it up...you are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Good luck and best wishes! You will beat your goal..that is fantastic!!

Yes, it's driving me nuts trying to keep up at work, at home and my online courses, but I'm doing it. I'm getting my Masters of Education in teaching ESL.Originally I wanted to do it because it would increase my salary but now I feel I have to do it because it will probably be the difference between my salary going down or staying the same.

I just completed my DScPT (Doctor of Science in Physical Therapy) degree this past May. I did most of my coursework online, while working full time. I got most of it done before the kids came along but still had a few credits and the dissertation to do. It was a huge challenge to finish my degree while chasing 3 kids who aren't even in school full time yet, but I'm so glad I did! I just wanted to be able to continue in the field I originally got my BS in, and not have any limitations on the type of career path I could take. My husband also works a long day and then is in the Navy Reserve so is away a lot of weekends. He provided as much help as he could, but it was rough to find enough time to myself. A couple of weekends when he was home I asked him to drop me off at a hotel so I could work all weekend uninterrupted! I think I used up most of the hotel reward points he collected on business travel, but that's the price you pay. No vacations coming up for us anyway :)

Just want to encourage you to stick it out and push through the rough patches. You will be so happy to have reached your goal you'll forget all the stress you went through! Well, that's not true, but it's great to feel secure and accomplished. Best of luck!

I am a single mom, work full-time, and am going to school for my MBA. I will be finished in May. Like you, I have a strong desire to just get it done and amy fortunate to work for a company that offers tuition reimbursement. I attend classes at night - one night a week for 5 hours in 7 week blocks. That allows for 2 classes a semester, but taking them one at a time. I have doubles up this block and will double up again in Jan/Feb in order to graduate in May. However, in Jan/Feb, my second class will be online. It was been a struggle for many reasons, but very worthwhile.

Best of luck to you!

I'm 28 and will graduate with my M.S in May (finally). My focus is on nursing education, and I'll be an assistant professor in the school of nursing that I currently teach in as an instructor. This degree is all online, which for me makes it harder since I have to be the one to make myself work on my papers, etc. Congrats on your accomplishment, adding kids and work makes for one tough degree!

Yes, I am 37, work full-time and have 1 child. I just started back to take 2 classes (online) to meet the requirements to sit for the CPA exam - one class will be finished next week and I'll start the second class in Feb. I'll be done in April and begin the prep classes in June. One class is hard enough, I can't imagine taking more than that. You should be extremely proud.
