How Many Eggs Can Kids Eat in a Week?

My 6 y.o. and my 20 month old love scrambled eggs. I can't seem to find out how many eggs is too many per week for them to eat. I know there are eggs in other foods like breads, pancakes...etc, which I need to take into consideration but should I limit them to 2-3 eggs per week? What is the guideline for kids and eggs? Thanks!

What can I do next?

The fat in eggs is healthy and the have vitamin E, B vitamins and easily digestible protein. Why would you limit them? My kids eat two a day. You know what is not so great? Cereal with tons of simple carbs, color, GMO grains and cheap vitamins added in.

I don't think there is a guideline for kids and eggs. As long as they're not suffering from a health issue -especially something like obesity or high cholesterol (which sadly, some children are actually experiencing these days), give them as many as they want! Eggs are actually good for you and a wonderful source of protein. I would make sure they are organic and cage free.

Why would you limit healthy protiens and fats for small children and toddlers?

We often forget...they are at a tender age. LOTS of brain development is occurring...and guess what your nervous system is primarily made of: FAT.

So don't worry about it. Feed them a balanced diet. An egg a day won't hurt a bit. Just be sure they are also getting fruits and veggies.

I found this: There is no limit for children—and not for adults either! Based on what we know about traditional fats and children through the work of Weston A. Price, we need a good amount of the great brain-building nutrients found in egg yolks. If a child is requesting more egg yolk, don’t hold back. Of course, those yolks should be from properly raised, pastured chickens. Think about it this way—we often eat a number of egg yolks quite normally in certain dishes, such as egg yolk custard or an egg frittata. Of course, be sure to offer other nourishing fats (cream, coconut oil, lard, etc.) to widen the variety of nutrients your little one consumes. Chances are your child’s requests will change soon enough. Rejoice in the fact that your wee one is asking for more egg yolks instead of more cookies!
Hope that helps!

I would not limit! Eggs are great protein, and great for kids! Think of the moms lamenting their kids craving fries and nuggets! LOL!

I don't think eggs are the big bad thing that a lot of people think. When we were raising our kids we had eggs for breakfast every morning, along with meat, bread, and sometimes oatmeal. Of course we all work now and have much smaller meals. I think that an egg, actual egg from a shell, a day is not too much.

Eggs are good for you! Its a great source of protein and I don't know about your little ones but none do not like meat and eggs were the best way to get that important nutrient in them. Let them eat them as much as they want. At least its not candy :)

Sounds like everyone has already given you good advice so I'll just agree...there is not limit to eggs. Of course, you aren't going to give them 4 eggs a day or anything...but to me every other day or whatnot sounds good. I'd do it every day, but my fear there is that they'll get burnt out and not want them anymore. :)

I asked a similar question recently...my 4 year old SEES eggs and immediately wants me to cook some up for him! I pulled 2 out today to bake and he immediately said, "Is that one for you and one for me?" I try to go for balance, etc....but after all the responses I got...about the same as yours...I'm not too worried about it...he probably averages 1-2 a day...but usually has 3-4 at once...then goes a few days...depends on the week and what I'm craving :p.

My 5 yo daughter eats eggs for breakfast almost every day. Eggs have been maligned for years but they are a good food, full of protein and a bunch of other nutrients. Yes they are high in cholesterol but that doesn't translate directly to blood cholesterol. Kids need fat from the yokes too. Good for the brain.

A couple eggs are a better breakfast than a bowl of cereal- that is just refined grains and sugar and chemicals but people don't hesitate to give their kids that every day.

Mine, would eat them everyday if I cooked them.
I don't think too many eggs is a problem. It's protein that they need and with my oldest being ADHD , all the extra protein she can get the better.

" You can eat one egg every day without harming your cholesterol and other blood-fats."

My son also loves eggs and I have had the same concern. What I have done is cut the egg. I use one yolk to 2 whites. All the healthy stuff is in the white not the yolk. He cannot tell the difference.
