Up to several weeks, although most are gone inside of one week.
Last night I hit my head really hard. I was going through a low doorway leaned over sliightly to fit through and cracked the top of my head against the door jamb. It literally knocked me backwards and i landed flat on my back. (I have huge bruises on my butt and arm developing as I type this.) But, fortunately I didn't lose conciousness. Of course I instantly developed a huge goose egg the size of my palm on top of my head. And now, 24 hours later, it doesn't seem to have gone down at all. Every goose egg i've had before (yes, i'm that accident prone) have all gone away within 8 hours. Should these things linger like this? Should I be concerned? I was pretty sleepy this morning, foggy today, and very emotional this morning which I know is a sign of head injury, but that's all gotten better this evening, yet the goose egg lingers. I'd really like to wash my hair soon but oh it hurts! Any thoughts?

Oh my God, I was going to sing the 12 Days of Christmas to figure it out. You know... 12 geese a'laying (6 geese a'laying)? And figured goose eggs would only last a day since they probably don't refrigerate well... yeah.
Then I realized you bumped your head. It's only been 24 hours and it's on your head, so it could take a while. I would guess at least several days for one that hard and severe.
EDIT: I thought I said, "Get your fanny to the doctor, lady!" but I guess not. If you haven't gone to the doctor, please do. I also thought of Liam Neeson's wife. Head injuries are nothing to ignore. Especially with the symptoms you described.
Go to the Doctor?
Remember Liam Neeson's Wife? She had a head injury and she died. But her head injury location, was different.
Anyway, I think it is always good to see a Doc for these things.
There are many types of Hematoma.
Subdural etc.
Injuries to the temple, are often more delicate or serious.
