Hi everyone!
My daughter is 14 weeks old and sleeps well at night.
It seems she is sleeping longer now during the day. She naps for hours!!
How long is too long?

Last night she went to bed at 7:45 and slept until 6. She ate and was tired again at 7:15. It is 8:55 now and she is still asleep!
Should I worry??

What can I do next?

Worry? I am SOOOOOOO jealous! *laugh* I wish my son had been that easy. He's easier now that he's older but still has his rough patches now and then. You're doing a great job and count your blessings you have a child that sleeps so well. It is really important for her brain development, mood and overall health.

This is VERY normal. I don't think mine stayed awake for long periods of time until they were 5 mos old. Every baby is different and some require more sleep than others. If you are concerned, talk to your doctor. However, so long as she seems to be eating and developing in all other areas, there probably is not cause for concern. Just be cautious that you encourage her to sleep at night and not during the day. You have an advantage toward getting her to sleep through the night very early on, which will save you many sleepless nights.

Hi B.. I have almost 5 month old twin boys and at 3 months mine did the same thing. I can tell you that my one boy is in the 95th percentile for height and weight and my other boy is just average and they both did LOTS of sleeping. It really didn't matter how much they slept during the day they still slept the same at night. Unless you are concerned they aren't eating enough because they are sleeping too much I wouldn't worry about it and watch in another month or two she will be awake more. But even them...my boys still take lots of naps during the day. Good luck and enjoy your napping time while you have it!!

There is no "too long" for babies in the first few months- at one point I added up that my DD, when she was about 3-5 months old, was sleeping around 21 hours a day. They are doing such an incredible amount of growing and developing during this period that it just wears them out. And it tends to change from week to week, too. So don't worry, especially if she is sleeping well at night. Also, I have this unproven theory that babies who sleep a lot grow up to be smarter, because a lot of the development during this time is in their brain.

hi B., sounds like she may have hit a growth spurt, but to ease your mind, call her pediatrician and ask her if you should be concerned. J.
