How Long Did It Take to Get Your Period After Nursing?

Ladies,
I stopped nursing our little girl about 3 months ago and haven't gotten my period yet. Should I see my Dr. to get meds to make me get my period or just be patient. I keep having the feeling that I'm gonna get it because I get cramps and aches in my abdomen, but nothing. I'm not pregnant so I'm not sure what the deal is.

What can I do next?

Um, have you tried a pregnancy test? That is how my second came along...I quit nursing at six months and 2 and a half months later had not started...a friend told me to take a test and sure enough, I was pregnant, with no signs at all. By the time we went to the doctor, a week after the test...I was 11 weeks pregnant with the ultrasound. Had no signs what so ever that I was pregnant. Go to the doctor and have the blood work done. Good luck and God Bless.

I say "congratulations!" I actually got mine while I was weaning, by the time I eliminated just one feeding. I would maybe call your doctor and see if you can get on birth control if you are not already back on one....I have heard that it lessens the intensity of the period when it returns. I have had 3 cycles and they have been extremely painful, so I called and got back on a form of birth control. Hoping it brings relief before my next cycle.

Enjoy this time :)

I don't think you need to see your doctor unless you are wanting to be put on birthcontrol. My first period started about 4 months after nursing. It also took a few months for it to be normal.

I'am still breastfeeding my 6 month old little girl I only had 1 period a few months ago,I feel crampy my back aches and feel like I can start anytime but nothing has happened.I was told to take a pregnancy test to rule it out but for me it may be to soon to take one this is going on it's second week not all day long here and there and it's uncomfortable to sleep. This is just how I new I was prego with my daughter.
Some people it takes longer to get regular again and others some get regular right away.

L.,

It took me three months after stopping nursing to start, and during the last couple months of nursing, I was only nursing 1X/day. Everybody is different. I had a regularly scheduled ob/gyn appointment before my period came back, and my ob told me not to worry for another few months - ie, not to worry until 6 months after stopping nursing. My period returned shortly after that ob appointment.
