T.D.
Have you called your cell phone provider? They probably have a way to locate the phone. Or does life 360 have a tech support line to call with queations? I have never heard of them
I am entering the world of junior high and my son having a phone and being much more independent ... and not always mature enough to handle it.
Last week he lost his phone, and I wasn't able to locate it. I have an iPhone, and he has a Samsung, so I tried Life 360. But it keeps telling me that his phone died 8 months ago and cannot be located.
I'm obviously doing something wrong. There is a setting somewhere that I need to change.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Or is there an app that you recommend?
I told my husband I was going to upgrade my iPhone and give him the old one just so I could track his phone!!! But I'm sure that's not the only way to do handle this.
ETA - I did check with our carrier, and they said they cannot track the phone. Of course, this was after the battery died, so I don't know if they could have before. I've been on the Life 360 Website, but this was when we were looking for the phone.
We think the phone might be in the Lost and Found. They have one that sounds like his, but I won't be able to stop by until tomorrow morning. If that is his phone, I need to figure out why I couldn't locate it. Nothing on the Life 360 website made any sense to me.
B.D., is there another way to track the device? I mean, after we find it and charge the battery? Is there a better app?
I turned his location on and thought I checked to make sure that wasn't the problem (this was a couple of months ago). Maybe I was wrong.
Yep, phone was in the lost and found.
Cha Cha, if only life were that simple. My husband and I both work full-time, and we need a way for our son to call us. I have seriously considered getting a track phone and just giving him that. I know some parents who do that as a negative consequence if their child show he/she cannot be responsible. But not having a phone at all is too much of a punishment for me.

I've never used it but every time my hubby or I misplace the phone its always in the house so I end up calling the phone and listening for the ringing. They always turn up in the most unusual places.
If you go to the Life 360 web page they have a section of Q&A that will walk you through the process.
Your location has to be turned on the phone in order for the app to work. It sounds like he keeps the location turned off and that's why Life 360 shows his last check in 8 months ago.
Life360 is used to track an individual by their phone's location. I would not use it to track the device. With the location turned off and the battery dead, I think he's going to have to retrace his steps to find it.
ETA: I suppose the app will do double duty. Our family uses it so that we can look to see where everyone is at any given moment per their device. (i.e. Right now, I can see that my daughter's bus is en route back to her school from their away tennis match due to rain. It gives road by road locations so I can judge when she will arrive back.) If you don't have your data or location service turned on the app will not work.
Just a suggestion - since you have not posted here about having endless free time - I think you should consider this "one strike". You can't be spending your time and energy week after week to keep track of your 11-year-old's personal cellphone (going to look through the lost and found?! ugh).
If he loses it again, no phone til you and he can figure out a "better system".
ETA: Totally understood (and fits my point about you not having free time), but then, some other punishment. "No time to drive you to the mall today, have to catch up on work from the two hours I lost searching your school lost+found for your phone."
