Alright.
Whew.
I'm at the end of a four week crunch. So I'm laying here, drowning myself in mamapedia. And, it's hard for me to sit still. I feel like I *should* be up DOING. What I really need, is to rest. I've renovated a house (12-17 hours of physical labor a day), done husband family reunion five thousand, and have come back to renovate my kids room (why do I always underestimate the amount of work a project like that entails?!). I didn't eat properly or sleep enough.
Big surprise. I got sick. I'm still sick, and I HAVE to rest. But my room looks like a dorm room after a long party (minus the party paraphernalia and hang over, and add to it twenty times the laundry.) I have phone calls to return, and a budget to balance, and AND AND...
Darn it. When will I be perfect! Ha ha.
How do YOU relax? How do you make yourself just sit down and stop?

Make a list of things I have to do...then sit it aside and know that I have my list...then I go to my room with my book and read...or watch TV - but it's MY time and don't interrupt me...
GOOD LUCK!!!
I just got off work. I moved someone in today and moved someone out. tons of paper work.
I went straight to the store when I walked out of my office and bought a 12 pack of bud light. It's hot outside and a cold beer tastes GOOOOOD! So, now I'm chillin here for a bit before I have to think about DINNER.
I dont think I do. I think my hubby relax's for the both of us. I have been known to get up in the middle of the night with the kids, and decide to finish the dishes or start a load of laundry.
Nothing numbs the brain like TV.
I usually go for a walk or ride my bike. With the heat right now I swim. Seems like if I sit in the house I just stew on the problems.
I find it relaxing to workout. I go to the gym! Or I take a walk with the kiddos.
LOL TwinMama! You just described me! Wish I could manage to do what Cheryl O does to relax herself!
With chamomile tea and a series off of netflix....right now its medium.
I meditate on occasion, but mostly I read and ......
wurdle and words with friends...... phone games
I open a book and get into another world, abandoning the cluttery real one for short periods of time. Ahhhhh!
If you ever become perfect, let me know how you do it! :^)
The only way I can MAKE myself take a time out and relax is if I know that taking some time for myself will improve the way I feel and act. Today I had a million things to do and was super stressed. My kids have been hard. I am tired of school being out for the summer. I was mean and snappy and felt like I was going to cry all day. Finally I told the kids to go play video games while I had a nap. It was the perfect solution for today because now I am a new person... I can deal with life again and I no longer feel angry and stressed.
Lots of times, a nap is a luxury...but today it was a necessity!
I never have that problem. I can sit down and relax whenever I feel like it! My hubby, kids and business are my priorities and anything else can wait! All my kids are older and what I LOVE when they are in school is if I'm really tired, I just throw off all my clothes and crawl into bed for a 2+ hour nap! that really helps! Otherwise, I love to read and that helps me relax and sometimes watching some dumb reality show I'm addicted to helps also. =)
It takes conscious effort sometimes. Especially if you have been going like you have.
Think of yourself like a car. You have been speeding along. You don't want to brake really fast. Take your foot off the accelerator and start coasting.
Try to do one thing at a time.
Make a list of really good relaxing, rewards--massage, bath with music, time alone, nap, nights out, etc.
Start by doing one thing at a time. Make it a moderate, finite, task--not too big, and not too small. Do not plan on cleaning all of your room--just the part that you will look at when you lie down. What is bothering you most and do that--only that. Turn off the phone for an hour if you can while you are doing that. Turn on music that will relax you--not hype you up. Complete that task and reward your self. Take the time to really reward yourself, not just 30 minutes.
Start on the next task.... Complete that and give yourself another reward. This time a longer reward.
Every time you give yourself a reward make it a longer reward time.
Pretty soon you will find that you are thinking more clearly and are relaxed.
