The oils in wood and the oils in smoke bond. Strip it. Sand it. Refinish/Paint it.
I got my old toybox back made out of oak and finishing, and it has been sitting in a trailor and it still smells like smoke, I don't want it to smell like that in the house.
I was wondering what options that I might have, it has set out for many years in a trailor so I think I may be out of options.
Smoke makes me sneeze and I get sick from being around it so worried about it coming into the house but it was made for me so will NOT get rid of it.
Thanks for any advise.

Your best best if it is real wood to sand it and refinish it..
If it's something other than that (plastic or vinyl covered) - wash it off with lemon juice.
GOOD LUCK!
Hi A.-
I see you've received some good answers already. I know you didn't ask about anything else regarding the toybox, but I am just thinking about safety and your child. Since you say your toybox is old, I am just wondering if it has child/safety hinges on it. Just something to check into and if it doesn't you can always add them to the wooden chest. Just do a search for safety hinges or stop in a hardware store. Maybe you've already taken care of this... I hope I am not bothering you by not really answering your question. (Just looking out for little ones and their fingers/head.)

Is it all wood? I would think sanding & refinishing would do it.
Wash inside & out with Murphy's Oil Soap and let it sit in the sun for a few days. The sun is an amazing deodorizer.
I would let it air out, outside for several days. Can you wash it with a mild soap & water?

If all else fails you can refinish it and/or paint it.
