If you put out glasses/bowls of pop with some liquid dishwashing detergent in them, it interests them and the detergent kills them. It's worked at picnics before.
We're having an outdoor party on Saturday and I'm afraid we're going to be attacked by the bees. Any suggestions?

I got a Raid Yellow jacket trap. In the past I have used the bug free back yard spray and had decent results. I haven't had the occasion to use the yellow jacket trap yet, but this is the description from msn shopping:
Raid, Disposable Yellow Jacket Trap, Attractant Is In Trap, Frosted Yellow Strips Let You See How Full Trap Is Without Opening, Disposable, Toss When Full, Attracts All Major Yellow Jacket Species, Catches The Queen That Starts The Colony, Non-Toxic Attractant Lasts For Weeks, No Mess, No Contact With Attractant, No Messy Refills, Hang Anywhere, Tested Against... More Leading Regional Brands Caught 50% More Species & 3 Times More Wasps Than Any Others.
We bought these bee traps from Menards that work WONDERS. They're $2.79 each, they're yellow and shaped like bee hives. You fill them with juice and a little sugar, then hang them from a tree or put them away from your party and it actually traps the bees in there. They are attracted to the sweet smell, go into the hive, fall in the liquid and die. We have 3 of these in our yard and we've killed at least 500 bees since we've had them up the past 3 weeks. You have to change the traps is the only downside so my husband does that :)
I have also heard of putting out 2 liters of OJ/etc. But you leave the cap on and cut a hole type contraption. Maybe if you google, you can find it. Or, hand out Bounty fabric sheets and have people rub it on their clothes or carry around in their pockets? :) good luck.
A two liter bottle or smaller with about an inch of beer in the bottem they will go in but don't know how to get out. Just set them away from people I have had good luck with these at several parties
I have the same problem. I got a Raid Disposable Yellow Jacket Trap. It works great. I put it up in a tree by and within a day I had to change it becuase it was so full! I got mine thru a Buzz Agent but you can find them at any local store. I would suggest putting a few up on the perimiter of your yard. They are very easy to use. You just hand it up. No filling, no mess. I hope this helps.

Place a few bowls of water mixed with sugar around the outside of the party area. The bees will be attracted to the sugar and will stay away from your guests. We do this every year for our big school fundraiser and it really works! Make sure you use lots of sugar!
Mix liqid soap, liquid fabric softner in water--spray on any bushes, plants, trees in the area. It will keep most bugs away for a couple of days. I use it all the time.
