How Do I Get Wax Out of Fabric?

Please help! A large candle pooled out of the holder onto a table runner. Is there any way of getting the wax out? It is regular cotton fabric and doesn't have any special beading or lace. Normally, it gets thrown in the wash and then ironed. It is a lot of wax! Thanks for your help!

So What Happened?

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I used the brown bag and iron and then used the Dawn soap. Almost all of it came out! It was a cheap candle from Walmart and was bright orange. After washing in hot water, I can just barely make out the stain. I can live with that! Thanks again! J.

I agree with Dawn's advice. I had this happen a few years ago...the brown bag and iron worked...and the dawn gets out the color. Good luck

It all depends on the kind of candle. Party lite candles you can put an old towel over the top and use an iron to melt the wax and pull it into the towel.

I agree with everyone who said to scrape off the excess, then use a brown bag and iron. However there still may be a spot after you've ironed out the majority (especially if the candle was colored). You can get rid of that spot by putting Dawn dish soap on it and throwing it in the wash :) Make sure you've brown bagged and ironed everything you can first!!!

Pick off what you can and then put a paperbag over it and iron it. Works like a charm!

Hello

I usually put the fabric/candleholder/jars etc in the freezer for awhile and it just pops right off.

I have also had success with the paper bag, towel and iron.

Throw the table runner in the freezer for a few hours. You will be able to peel the wax right off.
